From Eden To Eternity
The King Is Coming — And the Invitation Is Still Open
The Final Month of the Journey
Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone
Welcome to December. Eleven months of Scripture now stand behind us. We have walked from creation through covenant, slavery and rescue, wilderness and promise, judges and kings, wisdom and worship, prophets and exile, Bethlehem and Galilee, the cross and the empty tomb, Pentecost and the spreading gospel. Now the final month gathers the whole story into view. But December is not simply the finish line of a reading plan. It is where the great biblical circle closes: from Eden to the Cross, from the Cross to the Empty Tomb, from the Empty Tomb to the nations, and from the nations to the New Creation where God’s servants see His face. Genesis began with God, creation, a garden, a river, the tree of life, and humanity made to live in His presence. Sin shattered that fellowship. Death entered. The way to the tree was closed. Yet God immediately began unfolding His rescue. Through promise, covenant, sacrifice, priesthood, kingdom, temple, wisdom, prophecy, exile, and restoration, one great hope kept moving forward. Then the Word became flesh. Jesus came. He lived among us, loved perfectly, carried our sin to the cross, rose from the grave, ascended to the Father, poured out the Holy Spirit, and sent His followers into the world. Revelation now shows us where His victory leads: evil judged, death defeated, creation renewed, the river and tree of life restored, the curse removed, and God dwelling with His people forever. December therefore asks us to read slowly. Do not hurry because the finish line is visible. We do not merely want to say, I finished the Bible. We want to say, I saw Jesus — and I want to know Him more.
The Long Waiting — God Was Not Absent
As the Old Testament closes in Malachi, God’s people are left waiting for the promised messenger and the coming of the Lord. Then comes the long interval before the New Testament era — roughly four centuries often called the silent years. Scripture gives us no new canonical prophetic books from that period, but silence did not mean inactivity. The Holy Land passed through major political powers and transitions: Persian rule, the Greek and Hellenistic world that followed Alexander, the Jewish Hasmonean period, and finally Roman domination. Greek became widely used across the eastern Mediterranean. Trade and sea travel connected cities and peoples. Under Rome, an enormous network of roads and shipping routes linked much of the Mediterranean world. None of those empires created the gospel. Yet when the fullness of time came and Jesus was born, the world into which the apostles would later carry His name had pathways of language, travel, cities, commerce, and communication that could be used to spread the message rapidly. Paul would walk Roman roads, sail established sea routes, enter strategic cities, speak in synagogues and marketplaces, and send letters that traveled from church to church. The lesson is not that political empires were holy. Scripture is clear about human pride and injustice. The lesson is that God remains sovereign even through centuries His people do not fully understand. While generations waited, history was still moving toward Jesus.
Roman Roads Then — Digital Roads Now
The first Christians used what was available to them: roads, ships, homes, public spaces, handwritten letters, personal testimony, and face-to-face relationships. The message was never the road. Jesus was the message. The road simply carried the messenger. Our generation has been given different roads: phones, audio, video, digital Bibles, translation tools, podcasts, networks, and communication that can cross the world in seconds. Technology is not the gospel, and it cannot create faith. But it can become a road upon which the unchanging gospel travels. That gives us both an opportunity and a responsibility. What will we carry down these roads? May we use them not to make ourselves known, but to make Jesus known — helping people open God’s Word, see Christ, grow in relationship with Him, and then help someone else do the same.
Father — Son — Holy Spirit: Love That Brings Us Home
The relational foundation that began this Companion remains at its center. The Father created us for relationship and, when sin separated us, did not abandon His purpose. In love He sent the Son. The Son came willingly, revealing the Father, bearing our sin, defeating death, and opening the way home. The Holy Spirit lives within God’s people, opens our eyes to Christ, forms His character in us, strengthens our witness, and keeps the church looking toward the return of Jesus.
Father — Son — Holy Spirit — relationship with God — relationship with one another — invitation to the world.
The cross shows the depth of that love. The supreme sacrifice of Jesus was not an interruption in the story; it stands at its center. The more we read Scripture, the more we begin to see what His sacrifice fulfills: the Lamb, the altar, the priest, the Passover, the Day of Atonement, the suffering Servant, the rejected King, the pierced One. And the more we see, the more we want to know Him. That is the thirst we pray this journey creates. Not merely a desire to collect biblical information, but a hunger for Jesus Himself.
Read Until Love Draws You Back
The first journey through Scripture teaches us the story. The next journey reveals connections we missed. Then passages begin speaking to seasons of life we had not yet lived. Sacrifices mean more because we know the Lamb. Prophets become clearer because we know the King they awaited. Psalms become deeper because we have suffered, rejoiced, failed, repented, forgiven, and been restored. Eventually the motivation changes. We stop saying only, I need to finish my Bible reading. We begin saying, I want to meet with Jesus. And love draws us back to Genesis again.
Keep the Rhythm — One Final Month
Read Scripture first. Let the Bible speak before the Companion speaks.
See the whole story. December is filled with echoes from Genesis, Exodus, the prophets, the Gospels, and the cross. Notice them.
Discover Jesus. Watch for the Son of Man, Shepherd, humble King, pierced One, Lamb, Faithful and True, King of kings, Alpha and Omega, and the One who makes all things new.
Notice the Holy Spirit. Remember that the Spirit who inspired Scripture also forms Christ in His people and empowers witness.
Share the relationship. Tell someone what you are seeing. Invite another person into the Word. Use every faithful road available to carry the good news.
Prepare to begin again. Day 365 is not graduation from Scripture. It is an invitation into a deeper second journey.
December Prayer
Father, thank You for loving us from before we knew how deeply we needed You. Lord Jesus, thank You for Your supreme sacrifice, Your empty tomb, Your living presence, and Your promise to return. Holy Spirit, open our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture. Give us a thirst that grows rather than fades. Use our words, relationships, churches, homes, and the technology of our generation to carry the gospel faithfully to others. Prepare us for the day when every knee bows before Jesus and for the day when faith becomes sight and we see His face. Until then, keep us reading, loving, obeying, sharing, and beginning again. Soli Deo Gloria. Amen.
From Eden to Eternity — It ALL Points to JESUS.

New Testament Summary
"If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world." The 365-Day Celebration
From Eden To Eternity
It ALL Points to JESUS We began with four unforgettable words: In the beginning God. Before Abraham, Israel, Moses, David, the prophets, Bethlehem, Calvary, or the empty tomb, there was God. He created a good world and made humanity to know Him. Sin shattered that fellowship. The curse entered. Death came. Yet almost immediately God began revealing His rescue. Through covenant, sacrifice, priesthood, kingdom, temple, wisdom, prophecy, exile, and restoration, the promise kept moving forward. Then the Word became flesh. Jesus fulfilled what the Law anticipated, what the sacrifices pictured, what the kings could not accomplish, and what the prophets promised. He lived without sin, carried our sin to the cross, rose from the grave, ascended to the Father, poured out the Spirit, and began gathering His church from the nations. Revelation shows the destination: the Lamb wins. Evil is judged. Satan is defeated. Death is removed. The curse is gone. Creation is renewed. The tree and river of life appear again. God dwells with His people, and His servants see His face. Finding Jesus This Year He was there in creation and promise; in the ark and Passover; in sacrifice and priesthood; in manna and living water; in tabernacle and temple; in David’s throne and the prophets’ hope. He came as Servant and King, died as the Lamb of God, rose as Lord, reigns at the Father’s right hand, walks among His churches, and will return as King of kings. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is not a pile of disconnected stories. It is one unfolding story of God’s glory and redemption centered in Jesus Christ.
The Ending That Is Not An Ending
Begin Again
You have reached Day 365. But you have not finished the Word. The goal was never to conquer a book, check a box, or prove that you could complete a reading plan. The goal was relationship: to know the Father through the Son, to walk by the Holy Spirit, and to become a person whose life increasingly points to Jesus. So tomorrow, open your Bible again. Return to Genesis 1:1 — but now read it with eyes that have seen Revelation 22. You know where the river leads. You know why the tree of life matters. You know what the curse costs. You know the Lamb. You know the King. You know that the serpent will not win. You know that the One through whom all things were made is also the One who says, Behold, I am making all things new. The second journey will not be the same as the first because you will not be the same reader who began.
Let the Thirst Grow
Read the Bible to meet Jesus. Read it again to know Jesus. Read it again to love Jesus more deeply. Read it again to understand more fully the supreme sacrifice He made because of His love. Read it again so His Word shapes the way you think, speak, forgive, serve, suffer, rejoice, give, and love. Then share what you are discovering so someone else becomes thirsty for Him too. The pages will become more familiar, but Jesus will never become small. There will always be more to see of His holiness, grace, wisdom, compassion, sacrifice, Kingdom, and glory.
The Gospel Keeps Moving
The apostles carried the gospel along the roads and sea routes of their generation. Paul traveled, preached, planted churches, discipled people, and wrote letters. The early believers carried the message from person to person, household to household, city to city. Now different roads lie before us. A Bible can cross an ocean in seconds. A voice can be heard on another continent. Scripture can be read, heard, translated, discussed, and shared through technology unimaginable to previous generations. But the mission has not changed, and the message has not changed. Technology is only a road. Jesus is the gospel. So use the road. Use your table, your living room, your church, your friendships, your phone, your voice, your gifts, and whatever faithful means God places in your hands. Help one more person open the Word. Help one more person see Jesus. Encourage that person to help another. One person becomes two. Two become a family. Families become groups. Groups strengthen churches. Churches reach communities. Communities reach nations. And the gospel continues outward until the day Christ returns. We do not build His Kingdom by our power. Jesus is already King. We bear witness to Him. Scripture tells us where history is going: every knee will bow and every tongue will acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord.
Until We See His Face
Perhaps we will reach the end of our earthly lives before Christ returns. Perhaps a generation will be alive when the King appears. Either way, the destination for those who belong to Christ is the same: faith becomes sight. Revelation ends where our deepest longing has always been leading: His servants will see His face. Until that day, keep opening the Word. Keep asking the Holy Spirit to show you Christ. Keep walking with the Father. Keep loving the person in front of you. Keep carrying the gospel down every faithful road God provides.
One Last Invitation
You have reached Day 365. But this is not the end. Tomorrow, open your Bible again. Return to Genesis 1:1. Read it with eyes that have now seen Revelation 22. Look for Jesus. Listen to the Holy Spirit. Walk with the Father. Share what you discover with someone else.
And then keep going. Read. Read some more. And keep reading until you see Jesus face-to-face. Then perhaps the words we have carried through these twelve months will finally become unnecessary — because we will be standing before the One to whom they pointed. It ALL Points to JESUS.
Begin Again.
