Remember — And Give Thanks

Gratitude — Grace — God’s Faithfulness Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone

November Introduction - Remember And Give Thanks

Welcome to November. Ten months of Scripture are behind us, and now the year begins turning toward its final pages. This month is often associated with Thanksgiving, but biblical gratitude is deeper than a holiday. Gratitude grows when we remember: who God is, what He has done, how patiently He has carried His people, and what He has given us in Jesus Christ. October called wandering hearts to return. November begins in Ezekiel, where God’s glory appears among exiles. Jerusalem is far away, the Temple will fall, and the people are living with the consequences of generations of rebellion. Yet God is not absent. His glory reaches His people even in exile. Judgment is real, but so is His relentless purpose to cleanse, restore, shepherd, revive, and dwell with them again. Alongside Ezekiel, Hebrews leads us into the greatness of Jesus. He is greater than Moses, our true rest, the perfect High Priest, the mediator of the better covenant, and the once-for-all sacrifice who opens the way into God’s presence. Faith remembers God’s promises before it sees their fulfillment. Gratitude therefore becomes more than thanking God for pleasant circumstances. We give thanks because Jesus is enough. Then James and Peter bring faith down into ordinary life. Hear the Word and do it. Care for the vulnerable. Refuse favoritism. Tame the tongue. Humble yourself. Pray. Endure suffering. Love one another deeply. Use your gifts to serve. Gratitude becomes visible in a life shaped by grace. November closes in Daniel. Empires rise and fall, proud rulers are humbled, faithful believers are tested, and God remains sovereign. Daniel 7 lifts our eyes beyond every temporary kingdom to the Son of Man whose dominion will never pass away. Thanksgiving reaches its deepest note here: our future does not rest in human power. It rests in the everlasting King.

Father — Son — Holy Spirit: The Relationship Behind Gratitude

The Father is the giver of every good gift, the covenant-keeping God who disciplines His children without abandoning His promises. He seeks His scattered sheep, gives a new heart, and promises to dwell with His people. The Son is the reason gratitude becomes permanent rather than circumstantial. Jesus is our High Priest, sacrifice, Shepherd, cornerstone, example in suffering, risen Lord, and coming King. Through Him we do not merely receive gifts from God; we receive God Himself. The Holy Spirit makes this relationship living and inward. Ezekiel promises a new heart and a new spirit. The Spirit awakens what is dead, enables obedience, forms holiness, and keeps turning our attention toward Christ. So the relational rhythm remains: Father — Son — Holy Spirit — relationship with God — relationship with one another — invitation to the world. Grateful people become generous people. Forgiven people become forgiving people. People who have received mercy learn to show mercy. People who know they are living stones in Christ’s house stop treating other believers as competitors. Thanksgiving becomes a way of life.

Remembering Is a Spiritual Practice

Scripture repeatedly tells God’s people to remember because forgetfulness feeds fear, pride, complaint, and idolatry. Remembering God’s faithfulness does not deny pain. It places pain inside a larger story. The Psalms teach us to remember while crying. Hebrews teaches us to remember the faithful witnesses who endured. Peter teaches suffering believers to remember the living hope secured by Jesus’ resurrection. This month, when you see the word remember, slow down. Remember a prayer God answered. Remember a season He carried you through. Remember a correction that protected you. Remember a person He used. Most of all, remember Jesus — His cross, resurrection, intercession, promises, and coming Kingdom.

Keep the Rhythm

Read Scripture first. Read or listen to all four passages before using the Companion.

Remember. Ask what the reading reveals about God’s character and faithfulness.

Discover Jesus. Look for Christ faithfully — as High Priest, sacrifice, Shepherd, cornerstone, risen Lord, and everlasting King.

Notice the Holy Spirit. Watch for new-heart language, transformation, endurance, wisdom, and holy living.

Reflect and fellowship. Ask, ’Where did you see Jesus?’ Then add November’s question: ’What gives you reason to thank God today?’

Pray and live. Let gratitude become action — encouragement, generosity, service, reconciliation, worship, and obedience.

November Prayer

Father, thank You for Your faithfulness through every season. Lord Jesus, thank You for being our perfect High Priest, once-for-all sacrifice, Shepherd, risen hope, and everlasting King. Holy Spirit, open our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture. Give us new hearts that remember grace instead of rehearsing complaint. Teach us to give thanks in joy and in difficulty, to serve one another with what we have received, and to live as people whose hope cannot be taken away. Let gratitude become worship, obedience, generosity, and love. Soli Deo Gloria. Amen.

Remember His faithfulness. Receive His grace. Give thanks. Follow Jesus.

It ALL Points to Jesus.

November Monthly Review - Remember And Give Thanks

The Big Story

November began with God’s glory appearing among exiles and ended with the Son of Man receiving an everlasting Kingdom. Between those scenes, Ezekiel showed both the seriousness of sin and the stubborn faithfulness of God: He promises a true Shepherd, a new heart, a new spirit, resurrection life for dry bones, restored worship, and a river of life flowing from His presence. Daniel then showed faithful believers living under foreign kings without surrendering allegiance to God. The New Testament carried us from Hebrews through James and Peter into 1 John. Hebrews showed Jesus as our perfect High Priest and once-for-all sacrifice. James showed that genuine faith becomes visible in action. Peter taught suffering believers to live with resurrection hope, holiness, humility, and courage. John ended the month by calling us to walk in the light because the blood of Jesus cleanses us from sin.

Finding Jesus This Month

• Jesus is our great High Priest who understands weakness.
• Jesus is the once-for-all sacrifice who opens the way to God.
• Jesus is the Good Shepherd promised to God’s scattered sheep.
• Jesus is the source of resurrection life for what seems dead.
• Jesus is the cornerstone who makes believers a living temple.
• Jesus is present with His people in suffering and exile.
• Jesus is the truth who exposes counterfeits.
• Jesus is the Son of Man whose Kingdom will never pass away.
• Jesus cleanses those who walk honestly in the light.

The Relational Heartbeat

The Father gives, restores, disciplines, shepherds, and keeps His promises. The Son brings us near, intercedes for us, gives Himself for us, shepherds us, and reigns forever. The Holy Spirit gives new hearts, breathes life into what is dead, forms holy character, and helps God’s people live faithfully. Relationship with God becomes gratitude toward God and grace toward one another.

Reflect Together

1. What did November teach you about gratitude beyond circumstances? 2. Which picture of Jesus became most meaningful this month? 3. Where have you seen God remain faithful during a difficult season? 4. How has gratitude changed the way you treat another person? 5. What one truth do you want to carry into the final month of the year?

November Prayer

Father, we remember Your faithfulness and give thanks. Jesus, thank You for bringing us near, cleansing us, shepherding us, and giving us an unshakeable hope. Holy Spirit, keep our hearts awake to grace. Make us people who remember, give thanks, serve generously, endure faithfully, and point others toward Christ. Amen.

December Preview — From Eden To Eternity

The final month does not merely finish a reading plan. It brings the entire story toward its promised destination. Daniel will continue with visions of kingdoms and the purposes of God. The minor prophets will call God’s people to repentance, justice, faith, and hope. Zechariah will give striking pictures of the coming King. Malachi will close the Old Testament looking toward the messenger who prepares the way. The New Testament moves through John’s letters, Jude, and then Revelation. The risen Jesus stands among His churches. Heaven worships the Lamb who was slain. Evil is judged. Babylon falls. Christ returns. Death and Hades are defeated. A new heaven and new earth appear. The New Jerusalem descends. The river of life flows. The curse is gone. God’s servants see His face. Genesis began with creation, a garden, a river, the tree of life, and humanity in God’s presence. Revelation ends with creation restored, the river of life, the tree of life, and God’s people seeing Him face-to-face.

From Eden to Eternity, it ALL points to Jesus. December will also ask one final question: After finishing the Bible, what do we do? We begin again. Read, read some more, and keep reading until you see Jesus face-to-face. The rhythm marches on.
