September Introduction
The Servant King
From Promise to Glory Days 244–273 — September 1–30
Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone
Welcome to September. Eight months of Scripture are behind us, but the invitation remains as simple as it was on the first day: Come and see Jesus. If you have been reading with us, keep going. If you are arriving today, begin today. You do not have to catch up before you can come along. Open the Bible first, listen if that helps you, and let the Word lead. August carried us through questions, suffering, rebuilding, resurrection, and the declaration that our Redeemer lives. September begins with another great human question: What truly lasts? Ecclesiastes looks honestly at life under the sun and refuses easy answers. Work, wealth, pleasure, achievement, control, and even human wisdom cannot bear the weight of eternity. Song of Songs reminds us that faithful love is a gift. Then Isaiah opens before us, and the month begins climbing toward some of the clearest promises of Jesus in all of Scripture. We will meet Immanuel — God with us; the great Light; the Branch from Jesse; the sure cornerstone; the Servant who brings justice; the Redeemer; and the suffering Servant who is wounded for our transgressions and bears the sin of many. Alongside Isaiah, Paul leads us through 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, and Philippians. Promise and fulfillment begin standing side by side.
September’s heartbeat is this: Human strength fails. Human righteousness fails. Human kingdoms fail. But God’s promised Servant does not fail. The Servant is the King, and the search for meaning becomes a Person — Jesus.
Father — Son — Holy Spirit: The Love Behind the Promise
The relational foundation remains alive. The Father is the One who promises, calls, disciplines, restores, and sends. He does not abandon His world to darkness. He gives the Son. The Son comes as Immanuel, Servant, Savior, Bridegroom, cornerstone, suffering substitute, risen Lord, and coming King. The Holy Spirit opens our eyes to God’s truth, gives new life, assures us that we are God’s children, strengthens the church, and forms the character of Jesus within us. So the movement continues: Father — Son — Holy Spirit — relationship with God — relationship with one another — invitation to the world. Galatians will show that through Christ we are no longer slaves but sons and daughters who cry to God as Father by the Spirit. Ephesians will show that strangers are brought near, hostility is broken down, and believers become one household in Christ. Philippians will show the mind of Jesus — the King who humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, obeyed to death, and was exalted above every name. This is not theology kept at a distance. The Father welcomes us. Jesus gives Himself for us. The Spirit lives within us. Then that relationship reshapes how we love spouses, families, churches, neighbors, strangers, and even people very different from us.
What Truly Lasts?
Ecclesiastes is a gift because it dismantles illusions. If we ask money to save us, it cannot. If we ask achievement to make us permanent, it cannot. If we ask pleasure to give eternal meaning, it cannot. Death eventually exposes every substitute. But Ecclesiastes does not leave us with despair. It teaches us to receive life as God’s gift, remember our Creator, fear God, and recognize our limits. Then the rest of September opens the answer wider. What lasts is not something we manufacture. Lasting life is found in the God who comes to us. That is why Isaiah matters so deeply. Into darkness comes Light. Into human failure comes a righteous Branch. Into unstable lives comes a sure cornerstone. Into guilt comes the Servant who bears sin. Into exile comes the Redeemer. Into death comes the promise of restoration. The answer is not merely a better philosophy. It is Jesus.
Grace, Freedom, and a New Family
Paul will not allow us to turn Jesus into one more religious achievement. Galatians insists that sinners are justified by faith, not by earning God’s favor. Christ bears the curse. The Spirit gives new life. Freedom is not freedom to indulge ourselves; it is freedom to love and serve. Ephesians then shows what grace creates. People who were dead are made alive. Those who were far away are brought near. Dividing walls fall. Christ becomes the Head of one body. Believers are called to walk in humility, truth, purity, forgiveness, wisdom, love, and Spirit-filled relationships. Philippians brings us to the shape of that life: Jesus did not grasp for status. He humbled Himself. Therefore Christian maturity is not climbing above others but learning the downward path of love — serving, giving, rejoicing, persevering, and pressing on to know Christ.
Isaiah 53: Stand at the Cross
Late in September we arrive at Isaiah 53. Do not hurry past it. The Servant is despised and rejected. He bears griefs that are not His own. He is wounded for transgressions He did not commit. The punishment that brings peace falls upon Him. This is where the month’s questions converge. What can cleanse guilt? Who can carry what we cannot? Where can sinners find peace with God? Why does grace cost us nothing yet cost Jesus everything? Scripture leads us to the cross. Then Ephesians calls us to walk in love because Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. The cross is not only where forgiveness is received; it becomes the pattern of a life transformed by love.
Keep the Rhythm
Read God’s Word first. Read or listen to all four passages before opening the daily Companion. Ask what lasts. Notice what Scripture exposes as temporary, unreliable, or unable to save. Discover Jesus. Watch the promises sharpen: Immanuel, Light, Branch, cornerstone, Servant, Redeemer, suffering Savior, exalted Lord. Notice the Holy Spirit. Watch how the Spirit creates freedom, adoption, unity, maturity, holiness, and Christlike fruit. Reflect and fellowship. Keep asking one another, Where did you see Jesus? Let Scripture move from the page into honest conversation. Live today. Grace received becomes generosity, forgiveness, service, integrity, courage, unity, and love.
Prayer
Father, thank You for refusing to leave us with empty substitutes. Thank You for keeping Your promises and sending Your Son. Lord Jesus, You are Immanuel, the great Light, the sure cornerstone, the faithful Servant, our Redeemer, the suffering Savior, the risen Lord, and the coming King. Holy Spirit, open our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture. Free us from self-reliance and empty pursuits. Teach us to live as beloved children, to walk in love, to protect unity, to serve without seeking recognition, and to press on to know Jesus more deeply. Let our homes, churches, friendships, and daily lives reflect the Servant King. Until faith becomes sight, keep us following Jesus. For the glory of God alone. Amen. Read the Word. See the Savior. Follow Jesus. It ALL Points to Jesus.

Days 267–273 • September 24–30 Sunday Group Review — About 15 Minutes

Then Isaiah 53 brings us to the heart of the month: He is despised, wounded for our transgressions, and bears the sin of many. Ephesians answers with a new way of life shaped by truth, forgiveness, love, unity, and the armor of God. Philippians then points directly to Jesus, who humbled Himself to death and was exalted above every name.

Week Preview
September has two final days. Isaiah will lift our eyes toward new creation, while Philippians asks where our confidence truly rests and calls us to press on toward knowing Christ.
September Review - The Big Story
The Servant King — From Promise to Glory
The Big Story
September began by asking what can truly satisfy a human life. Ecclesiastes stripped away our illusions. Wealth, achievement, pleasure, control, and even human wisdom cannot defeat death or give lasting meaning. Then Isaiah opened the heavens. We saw the Holy One, Immanuel, the great Light, the Branch from Jesse, the sure cornerstone, the gentle Servant, the Redeemer, and finally the suffering Servant of Isaiah 53. The New Testament did not leave those promises hanging. Paul showed us Jesus: the One who became poor for us, whose grace is sufficient, who justifies by faith, bears the curse, makes us children, sets us free, gives the Spirit, makes the dead alive, unites His people, loves His church, and humbles Himself to the cross before being exalted as Lord. By month’s end Isaiah is looking toward new heavens and a new earth, and Paul is pressing toward one great goal: knowing Christ. The search for meaning has become a Person. The Servant is the King. It ALL Points to Jesus.
Finding Jesus This Month
Reflect Together
1. Where did you see Jesus most clearly in September? 2. Which promise in Isaiah became more meaningful to you? 3. What did Galatians teach you about grace and freedom? 4. What did Ephesians teach you about your identity in Christ? 5. What one change will Jesus see you carrying into October?
Fellowship Questions
Complete the sentence together: “This month I saw Jesus as ______.” Let each person answer briefly. Then thank God for one truth you want to remember.
September Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for meeting us throughout September. You are the promised Child, the righteous Branch, the sure foundation, the suffering Servant, the risen Lord, and the coming King. Keep us from empty substitutes. Teach us to know You, trust You, and live what we have read. Transform our hearts so that our lives reflect You more each day. Amen.
October Preview
October begins in Jeremiah, where God calls a reluctant prophet to speak His Word to a stubborn people. The New Testament moves through Philippians, Colossians, and the Thessalonian letters. We will keep seeing the same truth: kingdoms shake, human hearts wander, but Jesus remains supreme. Read Scripture first. Keep the rhythm simple. Keep looking for Christ.
September Complete
You read. You listened. You kept looking for Jesus. Read, read some more, and keep reading until you see Jesus face-to-face.
