Day 27 · January 27
A devotional for today
Today’s readings
- Old Testament: EXODUS 4:1-5:21
- New Testament: MATTHEW 18:1-20
- Psalm: PSALM 22:19-31
- Proverb: PROVERBS 5:15-21
Old Testament
God equips Moses with signs, Aaron joins the mission, and Pharaoh responds to God’s demand with harsher oppression. Obedience does not immediately relieve suffering, but it places God’s servants inside his unfolding deliverance.
New Testament
Jesus teaches that greatness in the kingdom looks like humility, care for little ones, relentless pursuit of straying sheep, and restorative discipline within the body. Heaven’s values overturn status-seeking.
Psalm
Psalm 22 turns from plea to praise as the sufferer anticipates rescue and worldwide worship. God’s salvation will be told to future generations.
Proverb
Drink water from your own cistern; covenant faithfulness is the wise and joyful path. Wisdom protects intimacy by guarding loyalty.
Discover
Jesus is the humble King who comes not to be served but to save the straying. The movement of Psalm 22 from suffering to praise reaches its fullest expression in his death and resurrection.
Reflect
DiIicult circumstances after obedience do not mean God has failed. Often they mean the battle has been joined and the kingdom is being revealed through humble faithfulness.
Fellowship
How do Moses and Israel respond when obedience makes life harder?
Why does Jesus connect greatness with humility and childlike dependence?
What hope shines through the second half of Psalm 22?
Where must faithfulness be guarded in your relationships?
Prayer
Lord, keep me humble, faithful, and unshaken when obedience becomes costly. Lead straying hearts back to yourself through your grace.
Live
Choose the humble place today - serve quietly, yield recognition, or care for someone with little status.
