Today’s story
David becomes king over all Israel and brings the Ark toward Jerusalem, though the story also reminds us God's holiness cannot be treated casually.
Jesus gives the new command to love one another and says He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life who brings us to the Father.
The psalmist asks God to open his eyes to wonderful things in His law.
Those who listen to correction gain understanding.
The story in children’s words
Two wicked men killed Saul's son Ishbosheth in his own bed and brought his head to David, hoping for a reward. David was angry at their evil deed and would not honor it. Then all the tribes of Israel came to Hebron and anointed David king over all Israel. David captured the strong city of Jerusalem and made it his own city, and God gave him victory over the Philistines. Then David brought God's ark up to Jerusalem with shouts, music, and dancing, and David danced before the Lord with all his might. His wife Michal looked down on him for it, but David said he would gladly be humble before the Lord who had chosen him. In Jesus' day, Jesus gave His friends a new command: "Love one another, just as I have loved you." He promised He was going to prepare a place for them in His Father's house, and said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." David danced before God's ark with joy, and Jesus opens the way for us to the Father's house forever.
It points to Jesus
David brings the symbol of God's presence toward Jerusalem. Jesus does more: He brings us to the Father Himself.
Talk about it
Ask: How can our love for one another make Jesus visible?
