Day 145 · May 25
Kids Corner — Day 145
2 Samuel 7:1–8:18 · John 14:15–31 · Psalm 119:33–48 · Proverbs 15:33
Today’s story
God promises David an enduring house and kingdom. David responds with humility and gratitude.
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, speaks of peace, and tells His disciples that love for Him is shown in obedience.
The psalm asks God to teach, incline, and turn the heart toward His ways.
The fear of the LORD teaches wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
The story in children’s words
King David lived in a fine house of cedar wood, and he wanted to build a house for God's ark too. But God sent the prophet Nathan with a surprising answer: David would not build God a house — instead, God would build David a house, a family and a kingdom that would last forever. God promised that David's offspring would build a house for God's name, and said, "I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever." David sat before the Lord and prayed with wonder, "Who am I, Lord God, that you have brought me this far?" Then David won victories over the nations around him, and he ruled with justice and fairness for all his people. In Jesus' day, Jesus promised His friends that the Father would send the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to teach them and remind them of everything Jesus had said. He left them His peace and said, "Don't let your heart be troubled." Jesus is the offspring of David whose throne lasts forever, and He gives us His Spirit and His peace.
It points to Jesus
God's promise to David reaches beyond Solomon to the eternal Son of David. Jesus reigns and gives His Spirit to live with His people.
