Day 146 · May 26
Kids Corner — Day 146
2 Samuel 9:1–11:27 · John 15:1–27 · Psalm 119:49–64 · Proverbs 16:1–3
Today’s story
David shows covenant kindness to Mephibosheth, then later falls into adultery and arranges Uriah's death. Even the best
human king needs grace.
Jesus calls Himself the true Vine. His disciples must abide in Him, love one another, and bear fruit.
The psalmist finds comfort and hope in God's promises.
Commit your work to the LORD; He weighs motives and establishes what is right.
The story in children’s words
David asked if anyone was left from Saul's family, so he could show kindness for Jonathan's sake. He found Jonathan's son Mephibosheth, who could not walk, and brought him to Jerusalem. David gave him back all of Saul's land and said he would always eat at the king's table, like one of the king's own sons. But later David fell into great sin. He took Bathsheba, another man's wife, and when her husband Uriah, a faithful soldier, would not enjoy comforts while his fellow soldiers were at war, David sent word for Uriah to be placed where the fighting was fiercest, and Uriah was killed. The thing David had done displeased the Lord. In Jesus' day, Jesus said, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer," and taught His friends to remain in Him and to love one another, just as He had loved them. David's kindness shows God's kindness, but only Jesus loves perfectly and never fails, and He calls us His friends.
It points to Jesus
David's kindness is real, but so is his sin. Jesus is the King without corruption, and apart from Him we can do nothing.
