Day 147 · May 27
Kids Corner — Day 147
2 Samuel 12:1–31 · John 16:1–33 · Psalm 119:65–80 · Proverbs 16:4–5
Today’s story
Nathan confronts David's sin. David confesses, receives forgiveness, but still faces painful consequences.
Jesus prepares His disciples for persecution and promises the Spirit of truth, who will guide them and glorify Christ.
The psalmist says even affliction can become a teacher when it drives us toward God's word.
Pride is detestable to the LORD; God remains sovereign over His purposes.
The story in children’s words
God sent the prophet Nathan to David with a story about a rich man who took a poor man's one little lamb. David burned with anger and said that man deserved to die. Then Nathan said, "You are the man!" and told David how God had blessed him, yet he had done this evil. David said at once, "I have sinned against the Lord," and Nathan told him God had put away his sin, though hard sorrow would come to his house. David's baby became very sick, and David fasted and prayed on the ground for seven days, but the child died. Then David got up, washed, worshiped God, and ate, trusting God even in sorrow. Later a son, Solomon, was born, and God loved him. In Jesus' day, Jesus warned His friends that hard times were coming, but He promised the Holy Spirit would come to guide them into all truth. He said their sorrow would turn into joy, and, "In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world." Jesus has overcome the world, and He turns our sorrow into joy.
It points to Jesus
David needs a prophet to expose truth. Jesus gives His people the Spirit of truth, who convicts and leads us back to Christ.
