Genesis 31:17–32:12 · Matthew 10:24–11:6 · Psalm 13:1–13:6 · Proverbs 3:16–3:18
Today’s story
Jacob secretly leaves Laban, faces pursuit, and then prepares to meet Esau with fear and prayer. He cannot manage the future by skill alone; he must ask God to deliver him according to covenant mercy.
Jesus warns disciples not to fear people more than God, promises rest to the weary, and answers John the Baptist’s questions with works that reveal the kingdom. Opposition is real, but so is Christ’s welcome.
Psalm 13 gives voice to the ache of waiting: “How long?” Yet lament ends in trust, because God’s steadfast love is stronger
than present silence.
Wisdom brings long life, honor, peace, and delight. Its treasure is not shallow success but a rich, God-shaped life.
The story in children’s words
Jacob took his family and flocks and set out for home, just as God had said. Laban chased after him, but God warned Laban in a dream not to harm Jacob. The two men made a promise of peace beside a pile of stones, and Laban went back home. Then Jacob heard that Esau was coming with four hundred men, and he was very afraid. He prayed, "God, please save me, just as You promised." Jesus told His friends not to be afraid, because God even knows how many hairs are on our heads. He said the blind could see and the lame could walk because of Him. Jesus is the One God's people were waiting for, and He cares for us in every fear.
It points to Jesus
Jesus is the greater Jacob who meets our fear with peace and the greater answer to every “How long?” In him, the weary truly find rest.
