Genesis 30:1–31:16 · Matthew 10:1–10:23 · Psalm 12:1–12:8 · Proverbs 3:13–3:15
Today’s story
Jacob’s household grows through rivalry, longing, and labor, while God blesses him even under Laban’s manipulation. The chapter shows God’s steady faithfulness in the middle of messy family systems and diIicult work.
Jesus commissions the Twelve and sends them first to the lost sheep of Israel with the message of the kingdom. Their mission requires dependence, courage, and readiness for opposition.
Psalm 12 laments a world where truthful speech disappears, yet God’s words remain pure and trustworthy. Human talk may fail, but the Lord’s speech does not.
Wisdom is more valuable than silver or gold. Better than quick gain is the slow treasure of understanding.
The story in children’s words
Jacob's family grew and grew, with many sons born to Leah, Rachel, and their servants. At last Rachel had a son and named him Joseph. Jacob worked hard for Laban, but Laban kept changing his pay and treating him unfairly. God saw it all and blessed Jacob with large flocks anyway. Then God told Jacob it was time to go back home, and Rachel and Leah agreed. Jesus chose twelve helpers and sent them out to tell people God's kingdom was near and to heal the sick. Jesus warned them the work would be hard, but God's Spirit would help them speak. The God who watched over Jacob sends His people out with Jesus' good news.
It points to Jesus
Jesus is the good Shepherd who sends under-shepherds to gather the lost. His mission continues through ordinary disciples empowered by his authority.
