Day 154 · June 1
Kids Corner — Day 154
2 Samuel 20:14–21:22 · Acts 1:1–26 · Psalm 121:1–8 · Proverbs 16:18
Today’s story
David’s kingdom is still scarred by rebellion, violence, and old bloodguilt. God brings justice, mercy, and deliverance, yet the brokenness of David’s reign reminds us that Israel still needs a better King.
The risen Jesus promises the Holy Spirit and commissions His followers to be witnesses. He ascends, and the disciples wait together for the promised power.
God is our keeper. Our help comes from the Maker of heaven and earth.
Pride goes before destruction. Jesus leads us in the opposite direction - the humility of a servant.
The story in children’s words
A wise woman in the city of Abel saved her whole city. She spoke with Joab, and the people threw the head of the rebel Sheba over the wall, so the fighting stopped. For three years there was a famine, because long ago Saul had broken a promise and killed people from Gibeon. David made things right, and he buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan with care. After that, God answered prayer for the land. David's brave men also won battles against giant men. After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent forty days teaching His friends about God's kingdom. He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit, who would give them power to tell the whole world about Him. Then Jesus was taken up into heaven, and two men in white said He would come back the same way. His friends prayed together and chose Matthias to take Judas's place. Jesus went up to heaven, but He will come again, just as He promised.
It points to Jesus
David’s wounded kingdom makes us long for the flawless King. Jesus restores what sin fractures and sends restored people to bear witness.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
