Kids Corner — Day 163
1 Kings 9:1–10:29 · Acts 8:14–40 · Psalm 130:1–8 · Proverbs 17:2–3
Today’s story
God warns Solomon to remain faithful, while Solomon’s fame and wealth grow. The Queen of Sheba sees his wisdom, yet prosperity can become dangerous when the heart wanders.
The Spirit confirms the gospel among Samaritans. Philip is then sent to one Ethiopian seeker, explains Scripture through Jesus, and baptizes him.
From the depths we cry to God, whose forgiveness gives us reason to hope.
God tests hearts, and foolishness eventually exposes itself.
The story in children’s words
God appeared to Solomon a second time and said, "I have heard your prayer." He promised to keep a king from David's family on the throne if Solomon walked in His ways, but He warned that turning to other gods would bring ruin. Ships sailed to faraway Ophir and brought back gold. Then the queen of Sheba came with camels loaded with spices, gold, and precious stones to test Solomon with hard questions. Solomon answered everything, and she said, "Not even half was told me! Blessed is the LORD your God, who delighted in you." In Samaria, Peter and John prayed, and the new believers received the Holy Spirit. Simon the sorcerer tried to buy God's gift with money, and Peter told him to repent, because God's gifts cannot be bought. An angel sent Philip to a desert road, where a man from Ethiopia was reading about a lamb led to the slaughter. Philip explained that the prophet was speaking of Jesus, and the man believed and was baptized, and went on his way rejoicing. Jesus is the Lamb the prophet spoke of, and His gift of life is free to all who believe.
It points to Jesus
Philip begins with Scripture and tells the Ethiopian the good news about Jesus. This is our pattern too: read the Word and follow it toward Christ.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
