Day 164 · June 11
Kids Corner — Day 164
1 Kings 11:1–12:19 · Acts 9:1–25 · Psalm 131:1–3 · Proverbs 17:4–5
Today’s story
Solomon’s loves turn his heart toward idols, and the kingdom begins to tear apart. Rehoboam’s harshness accelerates the division. Human wisdom without faithful obedience collapses.
Saul meets the risen Jesus on the Damascus road. The persecutor becomes a preacher: Jesus is the Son of God. Grace does not merely improve Saul; it redirects his entire life.
The quiet soul rests in God rather than demanding greatness.
Humility quiets the soul. We do not need to make ourselves great.
The story in children’s words
When Solomon grew old, his many foreign wives turned his heart away to other gods, and God was angry. God said the kingdom would be torn from Solomon's son, but one tribe would stay, for David's sake. The prophet Ahijah tore his new cloak into twelve pieces and gave ten to Jeroboam, promising him ten tribes. After Solomon died, his son Rehoboam would not listen to the wise old men. He answered the people roughly and promised even heavier loads, so ten tribes turned away and made Jeroboam their king. On the road to Damascus, something far better happened to Saul, who had been hunting down Jesus' followers. A light from heaven shone around him, and a voice said, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? I am Jesus." For three days Saul could not see. Then Ananias laid hands on him, something like scales fell from his eyes, and he was baptized. At once Saul began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God, and when enemies tried to kill him, his friends lowered him in a basket through the city wall at night. Jesus can change even His enemies into His messengers.
It points to Jesus
Solomon’s kingdom fractures; Saul’s old life is shattered by grace. Jesus can turn an enemy into a witness.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
