Day 176 · June 23
Kids Corner — Day 176
2 Kings 8:1–9:13 · Acts 16:16–40 · Psalm 143:1–12 · Proverbs 17:26
Today’s story
Kings and kingdoms continue changing, and Jehu is anointed to execute judgment on Ahab’s house. God is patient, but His warnings are not empty.
Paul and Silas worship in prison. An earthquake opens the doors, but the greater miracle is a jailer asking how to be saved and believing in the Lord Jesus.
David asks for mercy, guidance, and the Spirit’s leading.
Justice requires restraint and truth. Punishing the innocent is never righteous.
The story in children’s words
The Shunammite woman came home after seven years away, just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had raised her son to life. The king gave back all her house and land at once! In Damascus, Elisha wept when he looked at Hazael, because he knew the harm Hazael would do after he became king of Syria. In Judah, kings from Ahab's family kept doing evil, but God would not destroy Judah, because He had promised David that his lamp would always keep burning. Then a young prophet poured oil on Jehu's head and anointed him king over Israel. In Philippi, Paul commanded an evil spirit to leave a servant girl in the name of Jesus Christ, and it came out that very hour. Her angry masters had Paul and Silas beaten and thrown into the deepest prison with their feet in stocks. At midnight they were praying and singing hymns to God, when a great earthquake shook the prison open and loosened everyone's chains! The jailer cried, "What must I do to be saved?" They answered, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." That very night the jailer washed their wounds, he and his whole family were baptized, and he set food before them with great joy. Jesus saves whole households who believe in Him.
It points to Jesus
Paul and Silas sing while chained because Jesus is still Lord in the night. No prison can imprison the gospel.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
