Today’s story

Judah’s royal line is preserved through Joash, and the Temple is repaired. God protects the line of promise even through political violence and spiritual decline.

Paul works and teaches in Corinth despite opposition. Jesus assures him not to be afraid but to keep speaking because God has people in the city.

Generation after generation is called to tell of God’s greatness, compassion, and kingdom.

Isolation can feed selfish desire; we were made for wise community.

The story in children’s words

Wicked Queen Athaliah tried to destroy all the king's sons so she could rule Judah herself. But baby Joash was hidden with his nurse inside God's house for six years, so David's family line was saved! When Joash was seven, the priest Jehoiada crowned him in the temple. The guards stood all around with weapons, the trumpets blew, and all the people clapped and shouted, "Long live the king!" Athaliah was put to death, the people tore down Baal's house, and the city was quiet and glad. King Joash did what was right while Jehoiada taught him, and he set up a big chest with a hole in its lid so everyone could give money to repair God's broken temple. The workers were faithful, and the house was fixed. Later, though, Joash had to give temple treasures to Hazael of Syria to turn him away from Jerusalem. In Corinth, Paul worked as a tentmaker with Aquila and Priscilla and taught every Sabbath. The Lord told him in a vision, "Do not be afraid. Keep speaking, for I am with you, and I have many people in this city." Paul stayed a year and a half, and many Corinthians believed and were baptized. The same God who hid little Joash until his day came keeps His people safe until Jesus' day comes too.

It points to Jesus

Joash repairs the Temple; Paul keeps building Christ’s church through the Word. Jesus tells His servant not to be silent.
