Day 179 · June 26
Kids Corner — Day 179
2 Kings 13:1–14:29 · Acts 18:23–19:12 · Psalm 146:1–10 · Proverbs 18:2–3
Today’s story
Israel and Judah cycle through kings, wars, victories, and failures. God continues showing mercy, but human leadership keeps proving unable to rescue the heart.
Apollos is teachable and grows in understanding. In Ephesus, disciples receive fuller instruction and the name of the Lord Jesus is honored through genuine Spirit-empowered ministry.
Do not put ultimate trust in princes. The LORD reigns and cares for the vulnerable.
Fools resist understanding and prefer airing their own opinions. A teachable heart listens.
The story in children’s words
Israel's kings kept sinning, and Syria's kings pressed them hard, but God was gracious and did not destroy Israel, because of His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. When King Joash of Israel wept over dying Elisha, the old prophet had him shoot an arrow out the window and strike the ground with the rest. Joash struck the ground only three times and stopped, so Elisha said he would beat Syria only three times, not finish them. Even after Elisha was buried, a dead man thrown into his tomb touched Elisha's bones and came back to life and stood on his feet! In Judah, proud King Amaziah would not listen to advice and was beaten in battle, and Jerusalem's wall was broken down. But God still kept David's line going, and young Azariah became king. In Ephesus, a man named Apollos spoke boldly about Jesus, and Priscilla and Aquila kindly explained God's way to him more fully. Paul found twelve men there who knew only John's baptism. When they heard about Jesus and were baptized in His name, the Holy Spirit came on them. Paul taught for two years, so all in that land heard the word of the Lord Jesus, and God healed sick people even through cloths Paul had touched. Jesus gives His Spirit to all who believe in Him.
It points to Jesus
Apollos shows that strong teachers still need to keep learning. Jesus forms humble disciples who receive correction and then help others.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
