Today’s story
Joseph serves faithfully in Potiphar’s house and in prison, resists temptation, suffers unjustly, and is then summoned before Pharaoh because God has given him interpretation. The hidden years are not wasted years in God’s hands.
Jesus teaches that true family is formed by doing the Father’s will and then explains the parable of the sower. The issue is not whether the seed is good but whether hearts are receptive.
Psalm 17 is a prayer for vindication and refuge, asking God to guard the believer as the apple of his eye. David wants not only protection now but satisfaction in God’s presence.
The Lord’s curse rests on the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. Humility and teachability open the way to grace.
The story in children’s words
In Egypt, God was with Joseph, and everything Joseph did went well. But Joseph was put in prison for a wrong he did not do, and God was with him there too. Joseph told two prisoners what their dreams meant, because dreams and their meanings belong to God. Then Pharaoh dreamed of fat cows and thin cows, and no one could explain it, so Joseph was called out of prison. Joseph said, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer." Jesus told a story about a farmer sowing seeds, and only the seeds in good soil grew strong and made much grain. Jesus is the word of God's kingdom, and He grows in hearts that hear Him and hold on.
It points to Jesus
Joseph points toward Jesus in faithful suffering, false accusation, and eventual exaltation for the saving of many. Jesus is
also the sower whose word exposes every kind of heart.
