Day 21 · January 21
Kids Corner — Day 21
Genesis 42:18–43:34 · Matthew 13:47–14:12 · Psalm 18:16–18:36 · Proverbs 4:7–4:10
Today’s story
Joseph’s brothers begin to change as famine presses them toward honesty, responsibility, and sorrow over old sin. Judah especially starts to emerge with a more sacrificial posture toward Benjamin and their father.
Jesus teaches about the final separation of the righteous and wicked, then grieves the death of John the Baptist. The kingdom is both glorious and costly in a world that resists truth.
Psalm 18 continues in gratitude for strength, training, and victory given by God. David confesses that his ability to stand came from the Lord’s empowering hand.
Wisdom is supreme; get wisdom, and whatever it costs, get understanding. It exalts those who embrace it.
The story in children’s words
Joseph let his brothers go home with grain, but he kept Simeon and said they must bring their youngest brother Benjamin back. The brothers felt sorry in their hearts for the wrong they had done to Joseph long ago, and Joseph heard them and cried quietly. At home, the grain ran out, and Judah promised their father he would keep Benjamin safe. So the brothers went back to Egypt with gifts, and Joseph saw Benjamin and loved him so much he had to leave the room to cry. They all ate together, and Benjamin was given the biggest share. Sadly, King Herod had John the Baptist killed, even though John had only told the truth. Jesus, John's cousin and the greater One John pointed to, keeps telling God's truth no matter what.
It points to Jesus
Jesus is the righteous Judge who will sort the nations and the faithful prophet greater than John whose truth will not be
silenced forever. In him, grace and accountability meet.

Where did you see God’s providence at work even when he seemed hidden?
