Day 26 · January 26
Kids Corner — Day 26
Exodus 2:11–3:22 · Matthew 17:10–17:27 · Psalm 22:1–22:18 · Proverbs 5:7–5:14
Today’s story
Moses attempts deliverance in his own strength, flees to Midian, and then meets God at the burning bush. The Lord reveals his holy name, remembers his covenant, and sends Moses as his chosen instrument.
Jesus explains Elijah’s role, heals a demon-oppressed boy, foretells his death, and humbly provides the temple tax. Power and humility dwell together in him.
Psalm 22 begins with anguish so deep it feels like abandonment. Yet even in distress the psalmist remembers God’s past faithfulness and keeps praying.
Wisdom warns against joining those headed toward ruin. Sin often invites us into company and patterns that promise belonging while delivering shame.
The story in children’s words
Moses grew up, but he had to run away from Egypt and live in a far land. One day he saw a bush that burned with fire but did not burn up. God called to him from the bush and said He had heard His people's cries in Egypt. God said, "I will send you to bring my people out." Moses felt too small, but God said, "I will be with you," and told him His name: I AM. Jesus healed a very sick boy His helpers could not heal. He also told them again that He would be killed and on the third day rise up. On the cross, Jesus would even say the words of this day's psalm, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus suffered for us, just as the psalm said long before.
It points to Jesus
The “I Am” who speaks from the bush points forward to Jesus, who bears the divine identity and brings the ultimate deliverance. Psalm 22 also prepares us to see him as the suffering Savior.
