Today’s story

Hosea’s painful marriage becomes a living picture of Israel’s unfaithfulness and God’s astonishing covenant love. Judgment is real, yet restoration is promised.

Faith in Jesus overcomes the world. John centers eternal life in the Son: whoever has the Son has life.

Israel remembers that without the Lord they would have been swallowed alive. Their help is in the Maker of heaven and earth. Proverb Summary Flattery traps people, while the righteous care about justice. Discover Jesus Jesus is the faithful Bridegroom who loves an unfaithful people and gives eternal life to everyone who trusts in Him. Reflect Am I trying to find life anywhere apart from the Son? Fellowship Talk about a time God rescued or restored you when you could not rescue yourself.

The story in children’s words

God gave Hosea a hard picture to show His people. Hosea's wife was not faithful to him, just as God's people were not faithful to God. Their children's names were sad signs, and one name meant "not my people." But God still promised that one day people called "not my people" would be called "children of the living God." Then God told Hosea to love his wife again and buy her back, even as God loves His people who turn to other gods. One day His people would come back and seek the LORD and their king. John wrote that whoever has the Son has life. Jesus is God's Son, and in Him we are truly God's children, with life that lasts forever.
