Hosea 4:1–5:15 · 2 John 1:1–13 · Psalm 125:1–5 · Proverbs 29:9–11
Today’s story
Israel has knowledge about God but has abandoned the knowledge of God. Sin spreads through leaders and people alike, and God calls it what it is.
John joins truth and love. Christian love never requires us to surrender the truth about Jesus Christ.
Those who trust the Lord are pictured as Mount Zion - surrounded and kept by God. Proverb Summary Wisdom refuses needless quarrels and uncontrolled anger. Discover Jesus Jesus is truth in the flesh. Following Him means walking in both truth and love, never separating the two. Reflect Do my words hold truth and love together? Fellowship Discuss how Christians can remain gracious without compromising what Scripture teaches about Jesus.
The story in children’s words
God spoke through Hosea because His people had forgotten Him. There was lying and stealing and hurting in the land, and the people bowed to idols made of wood. God said His people were being ruined because they did not know Him. They looked to a strong king far away to heal them, but that king could not heal them at all. God said He would wait until His people admitted their sin and looked for His face with all their hearts. John wrote a short letter telling God's people to walk in truth and to love one another. He warned them not to welcome teachers who say Jesus did not truly come in the flesh. Jesus truly came, and those who stay in His teaching have both the Father and the Son.
