Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone

July Introduction

Grace That Holds

Welcome to July. Whether you have walked with us every day since January or you are opening this Companion for the first time, you are invited to begin right here. You do not have to catch up before you can come to Jesus. Open God’s Word. Read today’s passages. Then come back and walk with us. June showed us the Kingdom moving forward: Jesus reigns, the Holy Spirit leads, and the gospel goes out. July now carries us through a striking landscape of collapse, memory, mission, worship, sin, mercy, and grace. Second Kings closes with Jerusalem in ruins. Chronicles looks back across generations and remembers God’s dealings with His people. Acts carries Paul through trials, storms, shipwreck, and finally to Rome. Then Romans opens the gospel like a great treasure chest and tells us why the good news of Jesus is truly good. The heartbeat of July is Grace That Holds. Kingdoms fall. Leaders fail. People sin. Religious effort cannot make us righteous. Even sincere believers struggle. Yet God keeps His promises. Christ dies for sinners. We are justified by faith. We receive peace with God. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. July will not teach us that sin does not matter. It will teach us that Jesus is greater than our sin. Grace is not permission to wander from God; grace is God reaching us in Christ, bringing us home, and teaching us to live as His people.

Father — Son — Holy Spirit: The Relationship Grace Restores

The relational foundation remains alive. The Father is not a distant judge we must somehow persuade to love us. Scripture reveals the Father who keeps covenant, sends the Son, welcomes sinners through Him, and adopts believers into His family. The Son does not merely point toward salvation; Jesus is the center of it. He gives Himself for us while we are still sinners, rises from death, and becomes the One in whom we have peace, life, and hope. The Holy Spirit does not stand at the edge of this relationship. He gives life, confirms that we are God’s children, helps us in weakness, and forms the character of Christ within us. So the movement continues: Father — Son — Holy Spirit — relationship with God — relationship with one another — invitation to the world. Romans makes that movement practical. Grace changes how we see ourselves and how we treat others. We stop boasting. We learn humility. We use our gifts to serve. We love sincerely. We bless instead of curse. We welcome believers who see some matters differently. We carry the weak rather than pleasing ourselves. The gospel creates a family around Jesus. And that family is never meant to close in on itself. Paul keeps moving because the good news belongs to others too. Grace received becomes grace shared.

When the Story Looks Broken

July begins among ruins. That matters. The Bible does not hide the consequences of rebellion. Jerusalem falls. Kings disappoint. Families and nations carry scars. Chronicles then preserves long lists of names that can seem difficult to read, but those generations quietly testify that God has not forgotten His people or abandoned His promises. Acts tells the same truth through a different kind of difficulty. Paul is arrested, accused, delayed, threatened, shipwrecked, and carried toward Rome as a prisoner. Yet what looks like interruption becomes part of the mission. Chains do not chain the gospel. Storms do not cancel Christ’s purpose. Perhaps that is a word someone needs before reading another page: a broken chapter is not necessarily the end of God’s story. You may not understand what He is doing. You may see ruins where you hoped to see progress. Keep looking toward Jesus. Grace holds.

Romans: The Gospel Comes Into Focus

When Romans begins, Paul explains what every human heart needs to know. All have sinned. No one earns a place with God by religious performance. Abraham himself was counted righteous by faith. Jesus died for us while we were still sinners. Through Him we receive peace with God and a new life. Then Romans goes deeper. The struggle with sin is real, but condemnation is not the believer’s identity. The Spirit gives life. We are adopted as God’s children. Creation groans, we groan, and the Spirit helps us in our weakness. God is at work even when we cannot see the finished picture. And Paul reaches one of the great peaks of Scripture: nothing in all creation can separate those who belong to Christ from the love of God in Him. But grace never stops at what we believe. Romans turns toward how redeemed people live. Offer your body to God. Let your mind be renewed. Use your gifts humbly. Love without pretending. Honor others. Live at peace where possible. Overcome evil with good. Welcome one another. Carry burdens. Live for the glory of God. This is grace that holds — and grace that changes us.

Keep the Rhythm

Read God’s Word first. The Companion comes second. If listening helps, follow along with an audio Bible. Ask what the passage reveals about God. What is He doing? What does He love? What does He oppose? What promise is He keeping? Discover Jesus. Look for Christ faithfully — not by forcing Him into every detail, but by seeing how promise, kingship, sacrifice, righteousness, resurrection, mercy, and the whole biblical story find their center in Him. Notice the Holy Spirit. Especially in Romans, watch how the Spirit gives life, adoption, help, hope, and transformation. Reflect and fellowship. Ask the question, then talk about it. Keep saying to one another: Where did you see Jesus? Live today. Do not leave the truth on the page. Let one thing you read become one thing you obey.

Prayer

Father, thank You that Your faithfulness is stronger than our failure. Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for sinners, rising again, giving us peace with God, and holding us in a love from which nothing can separate us. Holy Spirit, open our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture. Help us when we are weak. Renew our minds. Teach us to live as beloved children of God and to extend to others the grace we have received. When we see ruins, remind us that You are still writing the story. When we fail, lead us to repentance rather than despair. When we succeed, keep us humble. Let our lives point to Jesus. For the glory of God alone. Amen.

Read the Word. Understand the Word. See Jesus in the Word. Live the Word. It ALL Points to Jesus.

July Review - The Big Story

Grace That Holds

July began in the ruins of Judah and ends with a humbled king discovering mercy. Between those moments, Chronicles traced generations, David’s kingdom, Temple worship, divided kings, reform, failure, and restoration. Acts carried Paul through trials, storms, shipwreck, and finally Rome. Nothing could stop the gospel. Then Romans opened the heart of the message. Humanity is sinful. Religious performance cannot rescue us. Abraham was counted righteous by faith. Christ died for us while we were still sinners. We are invited into new life. There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ.

The Spirit helps us. Nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ. Everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved. Grace changes the way we worship, serve, love, disagree, suffer, and hope. July teaches us something wonderfully simple: God’s grace is stronger than our failure. That does not make sin small. It makes Jesus great.

Finding Jesus This Month

• The promised Son of David — the King whose Kingdom will not end.
• The true presence of God — greater than the Temple.
• The gospel Paul carries — centered completely on Jesus.
• The One who justifies sinners by faith.
• The second Adam who brings grace and life.
• The One in whom there is no condemnation.
• The Shepherd of Psalm 23.
• The suffering Savior reflected in Psalm 22.
• The Lord whom everyone may call upon and be saved.
• The mercy of God reaching even deeply fallen people.

Reflect Together

1. What truth from Romans most strengthened your faith? 2. Which king’s story gave you the clearest warning? 3. Where did you see God’s mercy most clearly? 4. Has July changed the way you understand grace? 5. What one change will Jesus see you changing as you enter August?

Group Prayer

Father, thank You that Your grace has carried Your people through every generation. Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for sinners, giving us peace with God, freeing us from condemnation, and holding us in Your love. Holy Spirit, help us live as people transformed by grace. Amen.

August Preview

We leave July knowing that grace holds us. In August we will keep moving through the kings and deeper into Paul’s teaching, watching the gospel shape the life of God’s people. Scripture first. Jesus at the center. One day at a time. Read, read some more, and keep reading until you see Jesus face-to-face.
