Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone

“Holy Spirit, open our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture.”

June Introduction

The Kingdom Moves Forward

Jesus Reigns. The Holy Spirit Leads. The Gospel Goes Out.

Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone

May ended with the risen Jesus restoring Peter and saying again, Follow Me. June begins with that restored band of disciples receiving a mission larger than they could possibly accomplish by themselves. Jesus has risen. Jesus reigns. And Jesus will not leave His followers alone. He promises the Holy Spirit and sends ordinary people to carry His name outward — from Jerusalem, to Judea and Samaria, and eventually toward the ends of the earth. At the same time, the Old Testament takes us through the closing days of David, the rise and splendor of Solomon, the building of the Temple, the fracture of the kingdom, and the ministries of Elijah and Elisha. Kings come and go. Some begin well and drift. Some openly rebel. Some show courage for a season. Again and again we discover that even gifted human leaders cannot heal the deepest problem of the human heart. Acts gives us the great contrast. The true King is already enthroned. His Kingdom does not depend upon a palace, army,

political dynasty, or flawless human leader. Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit. Frightened disciples become courageous witnesses. Peter preaches. Stephen stands firm. Philip crosses boundaries. Saul the persecutor becomes Paul the missionary. Gentiles hear the gospel. Churches are born. Prison doors open. Opposition rises — and still the Word keeps moving. That is June’s heartbeat: Jesus reigns. The Holy Spirit leads. The gospel goes out.

Father — Son — Holy Spirit: God Drawing Us Into His Mission

The relational foundation remains at the center of our journey. The Father keeps His promises and exalts His Son. The risen Son sends His followers and pours out the promised Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit fills, guides, convicts, strengthens, comforts, and sends the church to bear witness to Jesus. This is not merely a sequence of theological facts. It is relationship with the living God. The Father welcomes us through the Son. Jesus calls us His own and gives us a mission. The Spirit lives within God’s people so that the life and love of Christ can become visible in ordinary human beings. And relationship with God immediately becomes relationship with one another. Acts will show believers praying together, sharing with one another, eating together, serving widows, crossing cultural barriers, forgiving enemies, welcoming outsiders, and carrying burdens together. The gospel creates a family, not merely individual believers. Then the circle widens again. The Father’s love revealed in Jesus and carried by the Spirit moves outward to the world. Jerusalem is not the finish line. Neither is our own home, church, town, or nation. The good news belongs to every people and every place.

The Kingdoms We Build — and the Kingdom Jesus Builds

Solomon will build a magnificent Temple, yet Acts reminds us that God is not contained by buildings made with hands. Human kingdoms divide; Christ forms one people. Human rulers protect their power; Jesus gives His life. Human leaders eventually die; the risen Jesus reigns forever. The contrast is meant to search our hearts. We can admire Solomon’s wisdom while quietly trusting our own intelligence. We can condemn Israel’s idols while building modern ones out of money, comfort, recognition, control, or success. We can celebrate the courage of the apostles while remaining silent when an ordinary opportunity to speak about Jesus appears. June therefore asks us not simply to observe the Kingdom moving forward. It asks whether we are willing to move with it.

Keep the Rhythm

Read Scripture first. Open the Bible before the Companion. Read or listen to the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm, and Proverb. The Companion walks beside Scripture; it never replaces it. Understand. Ask what happened, what the passage reveals about God and the human heart, and where it belongs in the larger story. Discover Jesus. Look faithfully for Christ — in promise, fulfillment, contrast, rescue, kingship, sacrifice, mission, and the direct witness of Acts. Notice the Holy Spirit. June gives us a special opportunity to watch how the Spirit works through ordinary believers. Ask: What is the Spirit doing here? What kind of person is He forming? Reflect and fellowship. Ask what God is saying to you, then share it. Keep the simple question alive: Where did you see Jesus? Pray and live. Let reading become relationship and relationship become obedience. Take one truth into the day.

A Word for the Ordinary Reader

Acts is encouraging because the people Jesus uses are not superheroes. Peter had failed. The disciples had been afraid. Stephen was an ordinary servant chosen to help meet practical needs. Philip simply followed where God led. Ananias was asked to go to a man he feared. Barnabas encouraged. Paul carried scars from his past and then suffered for the gospel he once opposed. You do not need to know everything before God can use you. You do not need perfect words. You do not need a platform. Begin where you are. Read the Word. Know Jesus. Listen to the Spirit. Love the person in front of you. Tell what Christ has done. Then take the next faithful step.

Prayer

Father, thank You for keeping every promise and giving us Your Son. Lord Jesus, You are the risen and reigning King. Thank You for calling ordinary people to follow You and carry Your good news. Holy Spirit, open our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture. Fill us with courage, humility, wisdom, love, and obedience. Guard us from the idols and compromises that ruined so many kings. Make our homes, friendships, churches, and daily lives places where the love of Jesus becomes visible. Send us wherever You desire, and let everything we do be for the glory of God alone. Amen. Read the Word. Understand the Word. See Jesus in the Word. Live the Word. It ALL Points to Jesus.

Day 152 - June 1

My Lord and My God

Soli Deo Gloria — For the Glory of God Alone

Read God’s Word First

Proverb: Proverbs 16:14–15

Read First: 2 Samuel 18:1–19:10 • John 20:1–31 • Psalm 119:153–176 • Proverbs 16:14–15

Old Testament Summary

Absalom's rebellion ends in the forest of Ephraim, and David's victory tastes like ashes. Hearing of his son's death, the king weeps, "My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died instead of you." A father's heart breaks over a rebellious son he could not save.

New Testament Summary

Before dawn, Mary Magdalene finds the tomb empty. She weeps in the garden until she hears one word — her name: "Mary." Then Thomas, who refused to believe without proof, sees the risen Christ and cries, "My Lord and my God!" John tells us why he wrote it all: "these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name."

Psalm Summary

The psalmist closes his great song with an honest confession: "I have gone astray like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I don't forget your commandments." The Shepherd seeks; the sheep need finding.

Proverbs Summary

A king's wrath brings death, but the light of a king's face brings life. Favor from the true King is everything.

Discover Jesus Today

David wished he could die in his rebellious son's place — but he could not. Jesus actually did. He died for rebels, rose from the dead, and now seeks every straying sheep, calling each by name. Thomas's confession is the only fitting response: my Lord and my God.

Heart Reflection

Where have I gone astray like a lost sheep? Do I hear the risen Jesus calling my name today — and will I answer with Thomas, "My Lord and my God"?

Fellowship Questions

Share one place in today's reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, risen and alive, seek me when I wander and call me by name. Let Thomas's confession be mine today: my Lord and my God. Amen.

Live Today

Listen for your name. The Shepherd is seeking you — turn toward His voice today.

New Testament Summary

At dawn on the shore of Galilee, Jesus cooks breakfast for His friends. Three times He asks Peter, "Do you love me?" — once for every denial in the courtyard. Three times He restores him: "Feed my lambs... Tend my sheep... Feed my sheep." Then comes the commission: "Follow me." The denier becomes a shepherd.

Psalm Summary

"In my distress, I cried to the LORD. He answered me." Surrounded by lying lips, the psalmist discovers that God hears.

Proverbs Summary

How much better to get wisdom than gold. The highway of the upright turns away from evil; he who keeps his way preserves his soul.

Week 23 Review - The Big Story

Days 154–160 • June 3-June 9

Sunday Group Review - About 15 minutes

The Big Story

David’s reign closes with both praise and pain. Solomon rises, asks for wisdom, and begins building the Temple. Yet Acts immediately lifts our eyes higher. Jesus has risen and ascended. The Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost. Peter preaches Christ, the church is born, and opposition cannot stop the witness. Human kingdoms depend on fragile rulers; Christ’s Kingdom moves forward by the power of the Spirit.

Finding Jesus This Week

• Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit.
• Jesus is the only name that saves.
• Jesus turns ordinary followers into witnesses.

Reflect Together

What truth from the Psalms or Proverbs do you want to carry forward? 5. What one change will Jesus see you changing this week?

Days 161–167 • June 10-June 16

Buildings and borders cannot contain God’s mission.

• Jesus meets enemies with transforming grace.
• Jesus opens the gospel to every people.

1. Which reading helped you see Jesus most clearly this week? 2. Where did you see the Holy Spirit leading ordinary people? 3. What warning from the kings do you want to remember? 4. What truth from the Psalms or Proverbs do you want to carry forward? 5. What one change will Jesus see you changing this week?

Week 26 Review - The Big Story

Days 175–181 • June 24-June 30

Sunday Group Review - About 15 minutes

The Big Story

Elisha’s ministry displays God’s compassion and power while Israel’s rulers remain deeply flawed. Acts shows the gospel crossing another decisive threshold: Gentiles are saved by grace, Lydia believes, a jailer is converted, Athens hears of the risen Christ, and churches grow despite resistance. God’s Kingdom advances not through perfect circumstances but through faithful witnesses.

Finding Jesus This Week

• Jesus saves by grace, not human achievement.
• Jesus opens hearts and prison doors.
• Jesus is proclaimed among both Jews and Gentiles.
• Jesus keeps His servants speaking when opposition rises.

Reflect Together

Fellowship Questions

Go around the group and complete this sentence: “This week I saw Jesus in ______.” Keep it simple and give everyone room to answer.

Week Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for meeting us in Your Word. Holy Spirit, lead us, strengthen us, and make us faithful witnesses. Transform our hearts so our lives increasingly reflect Christ. Amen.

Week Preview

June’s final two days begin the next weekly rhythm. Israel’s kingdom approaches catastrophe, but Paul keeps moving toward Jerusalem. Human kingdoms shake; Christ’s mission continues.

June Month Review - The Big Story

Jesus Reigns. The Holy Spirit Leads. The Gospel Goes Out.

The Big Story

June began with David’s kingdom still wounded and ended with Judah moving closer to judgment. Between those points we watched Solomon rise in wisdom and glory, build the Temple, and then drift. The kingdom divided. Idolatry multiplied. Elijah confronted false worship. Elisha served in the middle of national decline. Kings came and went, and the repeated lesson became impossible to miss: no human ruler can save the human heart. Then Acts thundered alongside Kings with a completely different kind of Kingdom. Jesus ascended but did not disappear from the story. He poured out the Holy Spirit. Peter preached. Stephen witnessed. Philip went to Samaria and to one man on a desert road. Saul the persecutor met the risen Christ and became Paul the missionary. Gentiles were welcomed. Churches were planted. Prisoners sang. Philosophers heard. Opposition intensified. Still the Word moved forward. Kings shows kingdoms failing from the inside. Acts shows Christ’s Kingdom spreading from the inside out — heart by heart, home by home, city by city. The King is Jesus. The power is the Holy Spirit. The message is the gospel. The witnesses are ordinary people who say yes. June ends with Hezekiah learning again that prayer matters, Paul walking toward hardship because he belongs to Jesus, and Psalm 150 calling everything that has breath to praise the LORD. That is a fitting ending: after all the kings, all the battles, all the missionaries, all the miracles, and all the opposition, the glory belongs to God alone.

Finding Jesus This Month

• Risen King: Jesus ascends and reigns.
• Spirit Giver: Jesus pours out the promised Holy Spirit.
• Only Savior: salvation is found in His name.
• Greater Temple: Christ forms a living people for God’s presence.
• Lord of All: the gospel crosses ethnic and cultural boundaries.
• Grace Giver: salvation is received, not earned.
• Faithful Sender: Jesus keeps sending witnesses even through opposition.
• True King: every failed ruler makes His perfect reign shine brighter.

Reflect Together

1. Where did Acts change the way you think about the Holy Spirit? 2. Which king or prophet taught you the strongest lesson? 3. Where did you see the gospel cross a barrier? 4. What did June teach you about courage and witness? 5. What one change will Jesus see you changing as you enter July?

June Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the King we need. Thank You for giving Your Spirit and sending Your people with the gospel. Guard our hearts from the idols and compromises that ruined so many kings. Give us courage to speak, humility to serve, and grace to obey. Holy Spirit, keep opening our hearts to see Christ in all of Scripture. For the glory of God alone. Amen.

July Preview — Keep Going

June closes with the kingdom of Judah under pressure and Paul under pressure — but neither God’s promises nor Christ’s mission have failed. July will carry us through the fall of Jerusalem, into Chronicles, and deeper into Paul’s witness and letters. We will keep asking the same question that has guided us from the beginning: Where do I see Jesus? Read the Word. Understand the Word. See Jesus in the Word. Live the Word. It ALL Points to Jesus.

Congratulations

You completed June. Thirty more days in God’s Word. Thirty more opportunities to see Jesus. Keep reading. Keep following. Keep going.
