The story in children’s words

King Abimelech's evil rule ended badly, just as Jotham had warned. After him, God raised up other judges, like Tola and Jair, to lead Israel. But the people sinned again, enemies rose up and hurt them, and they cried out to God. God was grieved by their misery, because He loved them. Then two sad friends walked along the road to a village called Emmaus, talking about all that had happened to Jesus. Jesus Himself came and walked with them, but they did not know it was Him. He opened the Scriptures to them, and when He broke the bread at their table, their eyes were opened and they knew Him. Then Jesus appeared to all His friends, blessed them, and was taken up into heaven while they watched. The risen Jesus still walks with His friends and opens God's words to them.
