The story in children’s words

Jephthah was a strong soldier, but his own brothers had sent him away from home. When enemies attacked Israel, the leaders begged Jephthah to come back and lead them, and God gave him the win over the Ammonites. But Jephthah had made a hasty promise to God before the battle, and keeping it brought deep sadness to his home. His story teaches us to be careful with our words. After him came other judges, Ibzan, Elon, and Abdon. Then a new book begins with wonderful words: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Everything was made through the Word, and the Word became flesh and lived among us, full of grace and truth. God sent a man named John to tell everyone about the Light that was coming into the world. Jesus is that eternal Word and that shining Light, and the darkness can never put Him out.
