Day 12 · January 12
Kids Corner — Day 12
Genesis 26:17–27:46 · Matthew 9:1–9:17 · Psalm 10:16–10:18 · Proverbs 3:9–3:10
Today’s story
Isaac prospers, conflict intensifies, and Rebekah and Jacob secure the blessing through deceit. The chapter exposes a fractured family in which favoritism, appetite, fear, and manipulation all do damage.
Jesus forgives and heals a paralyzed man, calls Matthew, and explains that he came not for the righteous in their own eyes but for sinners. The kingdom brings mercy, restoration, and newness that old forms alone cannot contain.
Though the wicked seem to prevail for a time, Psalm 10 ends by confessing that the Lord is King forever and hears the cry of the helpless. God’s justice may be delayed, but it is not absent.
Honor the Lord with your wealth and firstfruits. Worship is expressed not only in words but in stewardship.
The story in children’s words
Isaac dug wells again, and God gave him room and water. God said, "Do not be afraid, for I am with you." When Isaac was old and could hardly see, Jacob tricked him and received the blessing meant for Esau. Esau was very sad and angry, so Jacob had to run away to stay safe. Even through mistakes and tricks, God's promise kept moving forward. Jesus forgave a man who could not walk, and then made him walk. He also ate with people others looked down on, and said He came to call sinners, like a doctor comes for the sick. Jesus is the merciful Savior God promised to Abraham's family.
It points to Jesus
Jesus has authority to forgive sins, not merely relieve symptoms. He is the physician our sinful, disordered families and hearts most deeply need.
