Today’s story
Hannah pours out her grief to God, receives Samuel, and gives him back to the LORD. Her song celebrates God who raises the lowly.
Jesus heals a man who has been disabled for many years and declares His unique relationship with the Father.
God brought Israel out with joy and kept His covenant promises.
Patience shows understanding; quick temper displays folly.
The story in children’s words
A woman named Hannah had no children, and she prayed to God with many tears at His house in Shiloh. She promised that if God gave her a son, she would give him back to God all his life. Eli the priest blessed her, and God remembered Hannah, and she had a son and named him Samuel. When the boy was old enough, Hannah brought him to God's house to serve there, just as she had promised, and she sang a joyful song of praise. Samuel grew up serving the Lord. In Jesus' day, Jesus healed a man at a pool in Jerusalem who had been sick for thirty-eight years and could not walk. Jesus told him to pick up his mat and walk, and he did. Some leaders were angry because it was the day of rest, but Jesus said His Father was still working, and He was working too. Jesus, God's own Son, gives life, just as God gave Samuel to Hannah.
It points to Jesus
Hannah's God raises the helpless, and Jesus tells a helpless man to rise. The Son does the Father's work and gives life.
