Jesus says those who hear His word and believe have passed from death to life. The Scriptures themselves testify about Him.
God's people repeatedly sin, yet the psalm begins and ends with praise for His steadfast love.
A peaceful heart gives life; oppressing the poor insults their Maker.
The story in children’s words
Eli's two sons were priests, but they did evil things and would not listen to their father. God sent a warning that Eli's house would be judged, and that God would raise up a faithful priest. One night, while young Samuel was lying down in God's house, God called his name, "Samuel! Samuel!" At first Samuel ran to Eli, but at last Eli told him to answer, "Speak, Lord, for your servant hears." God spoke to Samuel, and Samuel grew and God was with him. Later, Israel took God's ark into battle as if it were a lucky charm, but they lost, the ark was captured, Eli's sons died, and old Eli died too. Jesus said that whoever hears His word and believes God who sent Him has eternal life and has passed from death into life. He said the Scriptures themselves tell about Him. Jesus is the faithful One God promised, and listening to Him gives life forever.
It points to Jesus
Religion without listening becomes empty. Jesus calls us beyond possessing Scripture to coming to Him for life.
Talk about it
