Day 129 · May 9
Kids Corner — Day 129
1 Samuel 5:1–7:17 · John 6:1–21 · Psalm 106:13–31 · Proverbs 14:32–33
Today’s story
The Ark exposes the powerlessness of idols, and Samuel calls Israel to put away foreign gods and return wholeheartedly to the LORD.
Jesus feeds the multitude and walks on the sea, revealing authority over scarcity and chaos.
Israel forgets God, craves what He has not given, and repeatedly resists His ways.
Wisdom rests in an understanding heart; wickedness has no secure refuge.
The story in children’s words
The Philistines put God's captured ark in the temple of their idol Dagon. In the morning, Dagon had fallen face-down before the ark, and the next morning his head and hands were broken off. Sickness came on the Philistine cities wherever the ark went, so they sent it back on a cart pulled by two cows, with gifts of gold. The cows went straight to Israel, and God's people rejoiced. Later Samuel called everyone together, they said sorry for their sins and put away their idols, and God thundered against the Philistines and gave Israel the victory. Samuel set up a stone and called it Ebenezer, saying, "The Lord has helped us so far." In Jesus' day, Jesus fed more than five thousand people with five small loaves and two fish, and twelve baskets of pieces were left over. That night He walked on the water to His frightened friends and said, "It is I. Don't be afraid." Jesus is the true God who helps His people, and no idol can stand before Him.
It points to Jesus
Dagon falls before the LORD; storms and empty hands bow before Jesus. Our King is not threatened by what overwhelms us.
Talk about it
Share one need and pray together instead of merely discussing it.
