Day 131 · May 11
Kids Corner — Day 131
1 Samuel 10:1–11:15 · John 6:43–71 · Psalm 107:1–43 · Proverbs 15:1–3
Today’s story
Saul is publicly chosen and empowered for leadership, and God gives Israel victory over the Ammonites.
Many disciples turn away when Jesus' teaching becomes difficult. Peter stays because Jesus has the words of eternal life.
Again and again people cry to the LORD in trouble, and He delivers them.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, and the LORD sees every place.
The story in children’s words
Samuel poured oil on Saul's head and anointed him as prince over God's people. God gave Saul a new heart, and God's Spirit came on him, and he even prophesied with the prophets, just as Samuel had said. When Samuel gathered everyone together and the lot pointed to Saul, Saul was found hiding among the baggage, and all the people shouted, "Long live the king!" Later, when an enemy king threatened a city of Israel, God's Spirit came on Saul, and he gathered the people and won a great victory. Then Samuel brought everyone together again and they made Saul king before the Lord with joyful sacrifices. In Jesus' day, Jesus taught hard words about eating the bread that gives life forever, and many followers turned away. But Peter said, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life." Kings come and go, but Jesus is the King whose words give life that never ends.
It points to Jesus
Saul begins with promise, but Peter's confession points us to the only King whose words give eternal life.
