The story in children’s words
Samuel told the people he had never cheated or harmed anyone, and he reminded them of all the ways God had saved their fathers. He warned them to fear the Lord and serve Him with all their hearts, and God sent thunder and rain that day as a sign. The people were afraid and asked Samuel to pray for them, and he promised he would never stop praying for them. Soon after, Saul gathered his army against the Philistines, but Samuel did not come at the time he had promised to wait for. Saul became impatient and offered the sacrifice himself, which was not his job to do. When Samuel arrived, he told Saul he had done foolishly and disobeyed God's command, and that his kingdom would not last. In Jesus' day, Jesus went up to the feast in Jerusalem and taught in the temple, saying His teaching came from God who sent Him. People could not arrest Him, because His hour had not yet come. Jesus, God's sent One, always obeyed His Father, and His kingdom will never end.
It points to Jesus
Saul acts from fear and impatience; Jesus moves according to the Father's will. The true King listens and obeys.
