Kids Corner — Day 133
1 Samuel 14:1–52 · John 7:31–53 · Psalm 109:1–31 · Proverbs 15:5–7
Today’s story
Jonathan trusts that the LORD can save by many or by few, while Saul makes a rash oath that burdens his own people.
Division grows around Jesus. Some see the Prophet and Messiah; leaders resist Him.
The psalm cries for God to answer injustice and defend the needy.
The wise receive correction and spread knowledge.
The story in children’s words
Saul's son Jonathan climbed up to the Philistine camp with only his armor bearer beside him, trusting that God can save by many or by few. God shook the earth, the Philistines panicked and fought each other, and Israel won a great victory that day. But Saul had made a hasty promise that no one should eat anything that day, and Jonathan, who had not heard it, tasted a little honey. The people were tired and hungry because of Saul's foolish words. When Saul wanted to punish Jonathan, the people stopped him, because Jonathan had worked with God that day. In Jesus' day, many people believed in Jesus and said He must be the Christ. On the last day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!" He was speaking about God's Spirit, which believers would receive. Jesus gives living water to thirsty hearts, far better than anything this world can give.
It points to Jesus
Jonathan's faith contrasts with Saul's controlling leadership. Jesus is the King who does not burden His people with prideful commands.
