Kids Corner — Day 135
1 Samuel 17:1–18:4 · John 8:21–30 · Psalm 111:1–10 · Proverbs 15:11
Today’s story
David faces Goliath with confidence not in weapons or size but in the name of the LORD.
Jesus speaks of being lifted up and doing what pleases the Father. His true victory will come through the cross.
The LORD's works are great, gracious, and worthy of study.
Nothing in the human heart is hidden from God.
The story in children’s words
A giant Philistine named Goliath came out every day for forty days and dared anyone in Israel to fight him, and the whole army was afraid. Young David came to the camp with food for his brothers and heard the giant mocking God's army. David said God, who had helped him fight a lion and a bear, would help him now. With no armor and only his sling and five smooth stones, David ran toward Goliath in the name of the Lord. One stone struck the giant, and he fell face-down, and Israel won the victory. Afterward, Saul's son Jonathan loved David like his own soul, and he gave David his robe, his sword, his bow, and his belt. In Jesus' day, Jesus told the people He was going away to His Father, and that when they had lifted up the Son of Man, they would know who He truly is. Many believed in Him as He spoke. David trusted God to win with one small stone, and Jesus, lifted up on the cross, wins the victory over sin for everyone who believes.
It points to Jesus
David defeats a giant, but Jesus defeats sin and death by being lifted up. God's greatest victory comes in a form the world does not expect.
