Day 136 · May 16
Kids Corner — Day 136
1 Samuel 18:5–19:24 · John 8:31–59 · Psalm 112:1–10 · Proverbs 15:12–14
Today’s story
Saul's jealousy grows as David succeeds. Fear of losing control turns Saul against the very person God is blessing.
Jesus says the truth sets His disciples free and declares His eternal identity: before Abraham was, 'I am.'
The person who fears the LORD is steady, generous, and not ruled by bad news.
The wise seek knowledge; the proud resist correction.
The story in children’s words
David won battle after battle, and the women sang, "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands." Saul became jealous and watched David with angry eyes. Twice he threw his spear at David, but David slipped away both times. Saul gave David his daughter Michal as his wife, hoping the Philistines would harm him, but God was with David in everything. Jonathan spoke up bravely for his friend and Saul promised not to harm David, but later he threw his spear again. Michal helped David escape through a window at night, and David fled to Samuel. Even Saul's messengers, and Saul himself, were stopped by God's Spirit when they came to seize David. In Jesus' day, Jesus told those who believed in Him, "If you remain in my word, you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." He said that whoever commits sin is sin's servant, but if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. Jesus is the Son who sets us truly free.
It points to Jesus
Saul becomes enslaved to jealousy. Jesus offers a deeper freedom - freedom through truth and relationship with the eternal Son.
Talk about it
Ask: How can we celebrate God's work in someone else without comparison?
