Today’s story
David again spares Saul, but Saul spirals toward fear and seeks forbidden guidance before battle.
Jesus raises Lazarus and declares, 'I am the resurrection and the life.' The miracle intensifies the plot to kill Him.
All nations are called to praise the LORD for His steadfast love and faithfulness.
Plans improve with wise counsel, and the right word at the right time brings joy.
The story in children’s words
David crept into Saul's camp at night while everyone was in a deep sleep from the Lord. David's helper wanted to strike Saul, but David said no, for Saul was still the Lord's anointed. David only took Saul's spear and water jar, then called out from far away and showed them. Saul said, "I have sinned. I will no more do you harm." Later David lived among the Philistines to stay safe. But Saul, frightened before a battle, went in secret to a woman who claimed to speak with the dead, and asked for Samuel. Samuel's message told Saul that the kingdom had been given to David and that Saul and his sons would die the next day. In Jesus' day, Jesus' dear friend Lazarus became sick and died, and was in the tomb four days. Jesus said to Martha, "I am the resurrection and the life," and He called, "Lazarus, come out!" and Lazarus came out alive. Jesus is stronger than death itself, and everyone who believes in Him will live, even if he dies.
It points to Jesus
Saul searches for guidance in darkness; Jesus stands before death itself and commands life. No other source can give what He gives.
Talk about it
Talk about how resurrection hope changes a present fear.
