Today’s story

Saul dies in battle, ending a kingship marked by fear and disobedience. David is preserved for what comes next.

Mary anoints Jesus, and He enters Jerusalem as King while the crowd celebrates.

The rejected stone becomes the cornerstone; the LORD is our strength and salvation.

The wise path leads upward; the LORD opposes proud and evil plans.

The story in children’s words

The Philistine lords did not trust David, so they sent him away from the battle, and David went back to his town of Ziklag. But enemies had burned Ziklag and carried away all the families. David and his men wept until they had no strength left, but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. God told him to chase the raiders, and David rescued everyone and everything that had been taken. Meanwhile, the Philistines fought Israel on Mount Gilboa, and Saul and his sons, including dear Jonathan, were killed in the battle. Brave men from Jabesh Gilead traveled all night to bring their bodies home and bury them with honor. It was a day of deep sorrow for David. In Jesus' day, Mary poured precious ointment on Jesus' feet and wiped them with her hair, because He had raised her brother Lazarus from the dead. The next day, crowds waved palm branches and cried, "Hosanna!" as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a young donkey. David wept over a fallen king, but Jesus came as the King who would rise again.

It points to Jesus
