Day 149 · May 29
Kids Corner — Day 149
2 Samuel 14:1–15:22 · John 18:1–24 · Psalm 119:97–112 · Proverbs 16:8–9
Today’s story
Absalom returns but reconciliation remains incomplete, and rebellion grows until David leaves Jerusalem.
Jesus is arrested after protecting His disciples. He stands before religious authorities while Peter follows at a distance.
God's word gives wisdom, light, and a path through darkness.
Better a little with righteousness; people plan, but the LORD directs steps.
The story in children’s words
Joab could see that King David's heart longed for Absalom, so he sent a wise woman to tell the king a made-up story about her two sons. The king promised to protect her son, and then she gently showed David that he should bring his own banished son home too. So Absalom was brought back to Jerusalem, though he did not see the king's face for two years. At last David called for him and kissed him. But Absalom began to steal the people's hearts: he stood by the city gate, greeted everyone kindly, and said he wished he were judge so he could help them. After years of this, he asked to leave the city, gathered followers, and a messenger came to David with the news that the hearts of Israel had gone after Absalom. In Jesus' day, Jesus went with His disciples to a garden, and Judas came with soldiers to betray Him. Jesus stepped forward and said, "I am he," and He let Himself be taken so His friends could go free. Peter struck a servant with his sword, but Jesus told him to put it away. David's own son turned against him, but Jesus willingly drank the cup His Father had given Him, for us.
It points to Jesus
David leaves Jerusalem because his son seizes the throne. Jesus leaves the garden under arrest because He willingly gives Himself. The true King does not save Himself at the expense of His people.
Talk about it
Ask someone to pray for courage to stay near Jesus under pressure.
