Today’s story

David charges Solomon to walk faithfully. Justice comes to unresolved enemies, yet Solomon’s early compromise warns that even a wise king can drift.

Ananias and Sapphira reveal the seriousness of hypocrisy. The apostles keep preaching despite arrest and beating, rejoicing that they suffer for Jesus’ name.

Those who trust the LORD are secure like Mount Zion.

A path can seem right and still end in death. We need God’s truth, not merely our instincts.

The story in children’s words

Before David died, he told Solomon, "Be strong, and walk in God's ways." Solomon sat firmly on his father's throne. Adonijah tried to take the kingdom again through a sneaky request, and he was put to death. Joab, who had killed two captains in peacetime, was also put to death, and Shimei died after he broke the king's clear command and left Jerusalem. So the kingdom was made firm in Solomon's hand. In the church, a man named Ananias and his wife Sapphira lied about money they gave, and they fell down dead, because they had lied to God, not just to people. The apostles healed many sick people, and an angel opened their prison doors at night so they could teach in the temple again. Peter said, "We must obey God rather than men." A wise teacher named Gamaliel said, "If this work is of God, you will not be able to stop it." The apostles rejoiced that they could suffer for Jesus' name, and they taught about Him every day.

It points to Jesus

Every human king is mixed. Jesus alone obeys the Father perfectly, and His apostles show what loyal obedience looks like: obey God rather than men.
