Day 157 · June 4
Kids Corner — Day 157
1 Kings 1:1–53 · Acts 4:1–37 · Psalm 124:1–8 · Proverbs 16:24
Today’s story
David grows old and the struggle for the throne begins. Adonijah exalts himself, but God’s promised line continues through Solomon, who is publicly anointed king.
Peter and John boldly testify that salvation is found in Jesus. Threats cannot silence them, and the church prays for courage rather than comfort.
Deliverance comes from the LORD; without Him, the flood would have swept us away.
Gracious words can bring healing like honey.
The story in children’s words
King David was old and could not keep warm. His son Adonijah tried to make himself king, with a feast and chariots and runners, but he did not ask his father. The prophet Nathan and Solomon's mother Bathsheba told David what was happening. David kept his promise and said, "Solomon my son shall be king." Solomon rode on the king's own mule to Gihon, where he was anointed with oil. The trumpet blew, and all the people shouted, "Long live King Solomon!" Adonijah was afraid and held onto the horns of the altar, and Solomon let him go home in peace. In Jerusalem, the rulers told Peter and John never to speak about Jesus again. But Peter said, "There is salvation in no one else," and, "We cannot help telling what we have seen and heard." God's people prayed, the place shook, and they spoke God's word with boldness, sharing everything so no one was in need. Jesus is the only Savior, and His friends cannot keep quiet about Him.
It points to Jesus
Solomon’s anointing points beyond itself to Jesus, God’s chosen King. Acts declares that there is no other name by which we must be saved.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
