Today’s story

Solomon asks not for riches but for wisdom to govern God’s people. God grants wisdom abundantly, and Israel flourishes under his rule.

The growing church wisely shares responsibility so ministry is not neglected. Stephen serves faithfully and speaks with

Spirit-given wisdom.

Tears are not wasted with God; He can turn sorrow into songs of joy.

Hard work can motivate us, but selfish appetite must never become our master.

The story in children’s words

In a dream, God said to King Solomon, "Ask for what I should give you." Solomon said, "I am just like a little child, so give me an understanding heart to judge your people well." God was pleased, and He gave Solomon the wisest heart of all, plus riches and honor he had not asked for. Soon two women argued over one living baby, and Solomon said, "Bring me a sword, and divide the child in two." The real mother cried, "Give her the baby, but do not kill him!" So Solomon knew she was the mother, and all Israel saw that God's wisdom was in him. Judah and Israel lived safely and happily under his rule. In the church, the widows of some believers were being missed when food was shared, so seven good men full of the Holy Spirit were chosen to help, and Stephen was one of them. Stephen did wonders, and when angry men dragged him before the council, his face shone like the face of an angel. God gives wisdom to His servants, and one day He gave the world Jesus, His greatest gift of all.

It points to Jesus

Solomon’s wisdom is a gift; Jesus is greater than Solomon. The church also needs Spirit-shaped wisdom to serve people faithfully.
