Today’s story

Solomon builds the Temple with great care. The house is magnificent, but its true importance is that God chooses to place His name among His people.

Stephen retells Israel’s story, showing that God has always been at work beyond buildings and human expectations. The story is moving toward God’s true Deliverer.

Unless the LORD builds the house, human labor is ultimately empty.

Deceitful speech divides people. Guard words that quietly damage relationships.

The story in children’s words

Solomon began to build a house for God, as God had promised his father David. King Hiram of Tyre happily sent cedar trees floating down the sea, and Solomon sent him food in return. Thousands of workers cut great stones and shaped them far away, so no hammer or axe was heard at the house while it was being built. Inside, the walls were covered with cedar and pure gold, and two big cherubim with wide wings stood in the most holy place. God told Solomon, "If you walk in my ways, I will live among my people and never leave them." In the temple court, Stephen told Israel's story. He told how God called Abraham, how Joseph's brothers sold him but God was with him, and how baby Moses was saved and grew up in Pharaoh's house. Moses tried to help his people, but they pushed him away, and he ran away to a far land. The God who was with Abraham and Joseph and Moses later sent someone even greater: Jesus, whom Stephen served with all his heart.

It points to Jesus

Solomon builds a temple, but Jesus is the true meeting place between God and humanity. Through Him, God is building a living people.
