Day 166 · June 13
Kids Corner — Day 166
1 Kings 14:1–15:24 · Acts 10:1–23 · Psalm 133:1–3 · Proverbs 17:7–8
Today’s story
Kings rise and fall, and the repeated verdict is spiritual: did they walk with God or turn away? Political success cannot heal an unfaithful heart.
God prepares both Peter and Cornelius for a barrier-breaking meeting. The gospel is moving beyond familiar boundaries because God shows no favoritism.
Unity among God’s people is precious and life-giving.
Love refuses to keep reopening offenses; division grows when we repeat them.
The story in children’s words
Jeroboam's little son became sick, and his wife went in disguise to ask the old prophet Ahijah about the child. Ahijah knew who she was, for God had told him, and he gave heavy news: the child would die, and Jeroboam's house would be swept away because of his sins. In Judah, Rehoboam also led the people into sin, and King Shishak of Egypt carried away the temple's treasures, even Solomon's gold shields. His son Abijam was not wholehearted like David, but for David's sake God kept a lamp burning in Jerusalem. Then Asa became king, and Asa did what was right. He removed the idols and even took away his own mother's idol, and his heart was true to God all his days. Far away in Caesarea, a Roman captain named Cornelius feared God, gave much to the poor, and prayed always. An angel told him to send for Peter. While Peter prayed on a rooftop, God showed him a great sheet full of animals and said, "What God has cleansed, do not call unclean." God was opening the door of Jesus' good news to people of every nation.
It points to Jesus
Human kings divide people; Jesus breaks barriers. God prepares Peter to see that the gospel is for people he once considered outside.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
