Today’s story

Ahab prefers agreeable voices to God’s truth and dies in battle as foretold. God’s word stands even when kings reject it.

Paul traces Israel’s story to David and then announces God’s promised Savior: Jesus. His resurrection is the center of the good news.

God hears, strengthens, and fulfills His purposes for His people.

Faithful friendship is precious, especially in adversity.

The story in children’s words

Four hundred prophets told King Ahab, "Go to battle and win!" But good King Jehoshaphat asked for a true prophet of the LORD. Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, I will speak only what the LORD says to me." He warned that Ahab would fall and Israel would be scattered like sheep without a shepherd. Ahab had Micaiah thrown into prison anyway, and went to battle in disguise. But an arrow shot at random found Ahab between the joints of his armor, and he died at evening, and the dogs licked his blood, just as God had said. Micaiah was right, because God's word is always true. In the synagogue at Antioch, Paul told that same true story in order: God chose His people, led them out of Egypt, gave them judges and then King David. From David's family, God brought Jesus the Savior, just as He promised. Jesus was killed and buried, but God raised Him from the dead, and He never saw decay like David did. Through Jesus, Paul said, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to everyone who believes.

It points to Jesus

Israel’s history leads Paul directly to Jesus: the promised descendant of David, crucified and raised. The resurrection is God’s decisive answer.
