Day 172 · June 19
Kids Corner — Day 172
2 Kings 1:1–2:25 · Acts 13:42–14:7 · Psalm 139:1–24 · Proverbs 17:19–21
Today’s story
Ahaziah seeks help from a false god. Elijah is taken up, and Elisha receives his mantle. God’s work continues from one servant to another.
Many receive the message while others oppose it. Paul and Barnabas turn toward the Gentiles, and the Word spreads
despite persecution.
God knows us completely - our thoughts, paths, words, and hidden places - and we invite Him to search our hearts.
Rebellion and pride lead toward ruin; God calls us to a better path.
The story in children’s words
King Ahaziah fell through a lattice and lay sick, and he sent messengers to ask a false god if he would get well. Elijah met them and asked, "Is it because there is no God in Israel?" and told them the king would surely die, and he did. Then God took Elijah up to heaven in a wonderful way. Elisha would not leave his master, even when Elijah asked him to stay behind three times. At the Jordan, Elijah struck the water with his rolled-up cloak, and the river split so they crossed on dry ground. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah's spirit. Suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire parted them, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven! Elisha picked up the fallen cloak, struck the water, and it split again, for the Spirit of Elijah now rested on him. He also made Jericho's bad water sweet with salt. In Antioch, almost the whole city gathered the next Sabbath to hear God's word. When some pushed the word away, Paul and Barnabas turned to the other nations, who heard gladly that Jesus was a light for them too, bringing salvation to the ends of the earth.
It points to Jesus
Elijah passes the mantle, but Jesus never leaves His throne. He keeps sending witnesses from generation to generation.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
