Day 173 · June 20
Kids Corner — Day 173
2 Kings 3:1–4:17 · Acts 14:8–28 · Psalm 140:1–13 · Proverbs 17:22
Today’s story
God provides water for armies and oil for a desperate widow, then promises a son to the Shunammite woman. His provision reaches public crises and private homes.
Paul heals a lame man but refuses worship. After being stoned, he rises and continues strengthening disciples. The missionaries return reporting that God opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.
David asks God for rescue from violent people and trusts His justice.
A joyful heart is good medicine. Christian joy is rooted not in easy circumstances but in the risen Christ.
The story in children’s words
Three kings marched against Moab and ran out of water in the desert. Elisha said, "Make this valley full of ditches. You will see no wind or rain, yet the valley will fill with water," and in the morning the water came, and God gave them victory too. A poor widow cried to Elisha because a man she owed money wanted to take her two sons as slaves. All she had was one pot of oil. Elisha told her to borrow many empty jars, shut the door, and pour. The oil filled jar after jar until there were no more jars, and she sold the oil, paid her debt, and lived on the rest. A kind woman in Shunem made a little roof room for Elisha, with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. To thank her, Elisha promised her a son, though she had none, and within the year she held her baby boy. In Lystra, Paul told a man who had never walked, "Stand upright on your feet!" and he leaped up and walked. The crowds wrongly thought Paul and Barnabas were gods, but the apostles tore their clothes and said, "We are only men. Turn to the living God, who made the sky and the earth!" Later Paul was stoned and left for dead, yet he got up and kept preaching. Jesus opens a door of faith to all nations, and His servants keep going through every hardship.
It points to Jesus
God’s abundant provision in Kings and the open door among the Gentiles in Acts both show grace overflowing beyond what people could manufacture.
Talk about it
Share one place in today’s reading where you saw Jesus more clearly. Then discuss the reflection question together.
