Today’s story

Assyria surrounds Jerusalem and mocks God. Hezekiah takes the threat into the Temple and prays. God answers, showing

that no empire is greater than the LORD.

Paul knows hardship awaits in Jerusalem, yet he refuses to turn aside. His life belongs to Jesus, and obedience matters more than personal safety.

God’s people sing a new song and rejoice in their Maker and King.

Gossip sinks deeply into the heart. Refuse to feed on words that wound another person.

The story in children’s words

The king of Assyria came with a great army against Judah. His messenger stood outside Jerusalem and mocked God, saying no god could save the city. King Hezekiah tore his clothes, went to God's house, and spread the enemy's letter out before the LORD. He prayed, "LORD, save us, so all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone are God." God heard him, and that night God's angel struck the Assyrian camp, and the enemy king went home. Many years later, Paul sailed toward Jerusalem, and a prophet showed with Paul's own belt that Paul would be bound there. Paul said he was ready even to die for the name of the Lord Jesus.

It points to Jesus

Hezekiah spreads the enemy’s threat before God. Jesus teaches the same dependent life: bring fear to the Father and keep walking in obedience.
