Today’s story

Tribal records include both faithfulness and failure. God remembers people, choices, and consequences.

Paul appeals to Caesar rather than surrendering his mission. His circumstances change, but his calling does not.

David asks God to hear, lead, and protect him.

Unresolved offense can become a wall between people.

The story in children’s words

The family lists go on, and in them we meet a man named Jabez. Jabez prayed, "Oh, bless me, make my land larger, keep Your hand with me, and keep me from evil." God gave Jabez what he asked for. The lists also tell of Simeon's family growing, and of Reuben, the oldest son, whose special firstborn gift was given to Joseph's sons because of his sin. Paul was brought before a new governor, Festus, and said he had done no wrong, so he asked to be heard by Caesar himself. Festus told King Agrippa that the whole case was about Jesus, who had died but whom Paul said was alive. Jesus is alive, and that is the good news Paul would not stop telling.

It points to Jesus

Jesus calls us to faithfulness in complicated circumstances. Paul does not control the system, but he keeps serving Christ within it.

Talk about it

How can we remain faithful when circumstances are outside our control?
