Today’s story

Paul sails toward Rome. A violent storm exposes human helplessness and the need to listen to God.
David asks the righteous Judge for protection.
Marriage is presented as a good gift from the Lord.
The story in children’s words
This reading names the families of Issachar, Benjamin, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Asher — many strong men, counted family by family. One line in Ephraim's family leads down to Joshua, who long ago led God's people into the promised land. Another line leads to Saul, Israel's first king. God knew every name in every family, and none of them was lost to Him. Then Paul was put on a ship sailing for Italy, and a great storm wind beat against the ship for many days. The sun and stars could not be seen, and at last everyone gave up hope of being saved. But God is a shield for His people, and the story of Jesus' servant Paul was not over yet.
It points to Jesus
Storms reveal where our confidence rests. Paul belongs to Jesus before he belongs to any ship, nation, or circumstance.
Talk about it
How can belonging to Jesus steady us in uncertain times?
