Today’s story

David’s support grows, but the first attempt to move the ark fails because holy things are handled carelessly. God still gives David victories.

Romans opens with the gospel: God’s power for salvation, revealing righteousness received by faith.

God sees the afflicted and will not forget them.

Money can attract companions, but hardship reveals relationships.

The story in children’s words

More and more men came to David until his army was like God's army, and all Israel was of one heart to make him king. David tried to bring God's ark back on a cart, but a man named Uzzah touched it and died, so the ark rested at a man's house and blessed it. Later, David asked God for help and defeated the Philistines twice, because God went out before him. Paul wrote a letter to God's people in Rome and said the good news was promised long ago in the Scriptures. It tells about God's Son Jesus, born of David's family and raised from the dead with power. Paul said, "I am not ashamed of the good news of Christ, for it is God's power to save everyone who believes."

It points to Jesus

Romans states the heartbeat plainly: the gospel is about Jesus Christ. Human strength cannot make us right with God; salvation comes through faith.

Talk about it

Why is the gospel good news rather than merely good advice?
