Today’s story
God promises David an enduring house and kingdom. David responds with humility and worship.
Paul warns against judging others while practicing the same sins. God looks beyond religious appearance to the heart.
The Lord is King forever and defends the helpless.
Wisdom loves the soul; false witness destroys trust.
The story in children’s words
David wanted to build God a house, since David lived in a fine house and God's ark sat in a tent. But God sent the prophet Nathan with a better promise: "I will build you a house." God promised that David's son would build God's house, and that his throne would last forever. David sat before God and prayed with wonder, "Who am I, that You have brought me this far?" God also gave David victory over the nations around him. Paul wrote that God is fair with everyone, and that judging others does not excuse our own sins, because God's kindness is meant to lead us to turn back to Him. God's forever promise to David points to Jesus, David's greatest Son, whose kingdom will never end.
It points to Jesus
God’s covenant with David reaches beyond David to the Son of David, Jesus, whose Kingdom has no end.
